love the idea of an antique cabinet. Faust-don't you have the midsummer nights shade?

My one housemate goes on and on about arne jacobson chairs (as I think it was arne jacobson who designed a lot of things for his college, St.Catz, at Oxford) does anyone have a link to an actual news thing about it, as I don't want to direct him to tfs :ninja:

Here you go meg :flower: http://www.arne-jacobsen.com/neobuilder.20020204151467100000002023974133.html

it's jacobsen ;) .

My parents live in the suburb where Arne Jacobsen's furniture is produced..once a year there is a huge sale (atleast thats how it was when I lived there) where employees have first dipps (?) and any scraps they don't want the hungry public can have..

I guess you could wrap it around a desk lamp Meg.

It's been hanging allright! It's a little tricky, the pictures are deceiving. To cut corners they made this into a lamp with a long cord that you stick in the electric outlet (like a floor lamp), which is pretty lame. They provide a screw with a loop, which you can screw into the ceiling, but that leaves the entire cord hanging on your wall. What I did was cut off almost the entire cord, split the wire and hung it as a fixture. I bought a cheap dome cover from a home improvement store to hide all the wiring. Looks good.

sounds good faust. Could one just remove the shade bit from the cord and hang it over an existing shade or string the shade to a lightbulb? I can't split wires. :ninja:

Sure, if you have just a bulb hanging from a wire, you can do it. The shade is just a huge flat sheet of metal that you wrap any way you want.

Where did you get yours?

I think I need to have a look at it again..........and must admit I'm too lazy to look through all the pages of this thread :ninja:

thanks for all the tips on the bedside table......I don't think it will be possible. I knew the room was small, but not that small.....my bed was delivered last night and there's only 33 by 40 inches left of the room so it's either a rolling rack for clothes or a bedside table.....which would you choose;)

 Loaded question on tFS!!!

Chris, it's available from many places, but I got mine at Moss, for the extra cheese factor (well, not really, I saw it there first, but then I saw it at few other places). It's nice to browse around Moss anyway, it's such a funky store.

schwing, i never thought i'd be happy to have a bare bulb on a cord in my room.

Chris, I feel your pain regarding room size. My room is literally a shoebox for humans. I really need to maximize the space (very high ceiling) with shelving but totally lack any cool shelving ideas. Anyone have any thoughts? My warddrobe is outside of my room housed in this weird little closet.

ooh cool shelving ideas.. I just saws these this morning :..okay I can't find it you wont believe the mess I live in right now :ninja: ..I'll locate it and get back to you

thx Faust......Meg I've got bare bulb syndrome as well

......and the other half of my clothes are in the only closet which is in the living area

shelving ideas.........I was going to buy the standards that attach to the wall that would function as a wardrobe without doors (they wouldn't be able to open anyway) one hangrail and 4 shelves up the wall. they have all the fixtures at Bed Bath & Beyond, The Container Store, etc.....still can't decide if I want to do it that way.

if we're not talking about clothing storage. Ikea has some great shelving options. I'm not usually the biggest fan of their products, but the way they utilize space is so creative and functional.

those are cool hanne...i've seen similar things elsewhere. but how would you mount them? I'm so not handy that I end up having to ask my one housemate to do it which i'm sure aggravates him. i've looked at ikea briefly before......i'm not sure i entirely understand your shelving solution chris....do you have any sort of photo of it anywhere?

it's just like OLD visual merchandising standards at my first retail job;)

I currently have a great platform bed left behind by the previous renter that I've been using.

Right now I have a horrible aerobed on it with basically no sheets and a piss poor blanket with ikea 2.00 pillows.

Can anyone give me any recommendations on what to look for in terms of a good matress, sheets, pillows and blankets? Any recommendations on stores, preferbly in NYC.
