The Kills

love them, love them, love them <3
I felt in love with the Kills when they were about "no wow" album and I still love them.
For me Midnight Boom was the best, but Blood Pressures is also very good, just different style. Right now they're "too much Dead Weather"

So I saw them in Chicago last night and...

It pains me to say this but their chemistry is gone. Zip, zilch, nada. Anyone who sees them for the very first time on this tour will probably be blown away. However, anyone that saw them back in the day (and by that I mean pre-Kate Moss) you'll note how they've completely lost all forms of sexual chemistry.

They performed on complete ends of the stage, only crossing the threshold once or twice. They barely interacted with one another; it's no longer intimate. Also, the back up singers looked confused and incongruous (plus they were having sound problems) and the contrived drummers just looked ridiculous (scarves over their faces, really)? There was a set of drums and keyboard that was only used once. It seemed like the giant stage and superfluous fluff swallowed them whole. It's such a shame.

^ i have to agree. i saw them at the wiltern and felt the same...and it was a weird show too. i had seen them 3 times prior, at small intimate venues. this one i felt like the audience was only there because it was popular music. everyone was terribly rude and not there for the band, but more to be 'seen' at a kills show....a lot of celebs there too. lindsay lohan, marylin manson, the chick from gossip girl.

i saw them with the horrors down at the glass house. that was one of the best shows i had ever been too. sadly kate was sitting on the side lines snapping pics of her beau, but it was right when she first started being a touring groupie. i saw them open for the raconteurs too at the SB bowl years ago, when jack had larengitus....and played a whole set sitting there sicker than a dog. that was when her and jamie were still together and the first time i had seen them live. i was amazed. their performance stuck with me more than the raconteurs...and they just opened...

^You're exactly right. I saw them on their tour with The Horrors as well (I was one of 20 people in the audience) and it was the greatest show I've ever been to, hands down. Their chemistry was so palpable; I've never seen anything else like it on stage and probably never will again.

I know what you mean about the crowd this time around too, it was so lame! On a side note, I'm also hearing their songs creep up in really awful movie & TV previews. I know they need to make a dime (or do they?) so that's kind of disappointing.

Regardless, I'll still love them.

I saw The Kills at the end of 2011 and there was still a lot of chemistry between the two of them (the fact that it was a small venue might have helped). They're not really my cup of tea but their dynamic is quite interesting - strange, to say the least (plus Alison is a - no pun intended - killer front woman).

I'm so sad that they are not coming to Detroit. This US tour is quite short. I hope they add more dates soon. I do think the chemistry was off when I saw them in 2011 on, but it was always intense before, even when Jaime was with Kate. I think after she joined The Dead Weather, it became less intense.

I saw them a couple of months ago and as someone who has seen them 10 times since the beginning of their career I would say that the chemistry was still there.....and Kate was in the crowd!!! But it was a tiny bar gig which seems to be their natural environment!!

I've seen them three times in 2011 and the first time was really disappointing to me. It was like they wanted to keep distance from one another, just like you said on complete ends of the stage. The music was great, they did the job, but this "spark" they had in the past was gone. However when I saw them in Paris at the Olympia a few months ago with their back up singers and drummers I was completely blown away. There was a total new dynamic which I found very exciting.

Jamie is married now, it's been 10 years since they met, their relationship has evolved just like their music so it seems (unfortunately) natural to me. It's more about tenderness and partnership. The good old times are gone but hey we still have the music.
I must say I would have killed to see them perform with The Horrors. I love this band.

^^ LOL. ITA. im not digging the pink.

i have seen her play with the dead weather as well. a completely different vibe.
maybe it's key to see them at small venues. they can play large ones fine, i just think it's more enjoyable seeing them at small gigs..
