The Lips thread, all you need to ask and know...

Ok, so this is sort of a weird question/problem, but here goes: I get the most peely lips ever. Seriously...they turn white and peely so often. It's very frustrating, because I use so much Vaseline, chapstick, etc. I rarely wear lip gloss. When I asked my derm he told me the only thing I could do was to use chapstick. Anyone else have this issue? It's year round, no matter what the weather, so frustrating. It's so socially awkward at times...I can't just stand there wiping my lips on my sleeve or peeling the skin off! Ah!

I would say a regular exfoliant (The Body Shop does a decent one) and slowly buffing it off with a warm cloth. That and keeping up the chapstick, or a lip balm for very dry lips?

I brush my lips with my toothbrush and toothpaste :P
they get really smooth afterwards

It could be related to your diet. Maybe you need more vitamins or iron. You should consult with your GP. I don't want to scare you, but one of the symptoms for anemia is dry and chapped lips.

I have had something similar to this all my life. It used to get as bad as you because as a kid I didn't know any better and kept licking my lips to keep them from drying out (which only made it worse). Once I stopped doing that it got a lot better, but then my lips constantly shrivelled up seconds after I woke up in the morning (strangely enough when I sleep they are full, plump and completely wrinkle-free!) and had very deep grooves appearing in them. I was drinking plenty of water and I definitely didn't have anaemia, so I have no idea what caused (and still causes) it.

Eventually I started using Vaseline. That didn't help anything. Just put a thick oily film over my drying lips and made this disgusting white slime form on the inner edges of my lips and the corners of my mouth.

I now use a shea butter lip balm (unrefined shea butter) and I find it moisturises and conditions far better than Vaseline and Burt's Bees. I also exfoliate my lips in the shower every morning. I have it warm in the beginning and eventually you can just rub your lips with your fingers and all the dead skin comes off.

I still can't wear lipstick for long though: half an hour and my lips are like raisins underneath and I can't put lip balm over the top.

^Same here with the Vaseline, but if I wear it overnight it helps soften up my lips. I have a C.G. Bigelow lip exfoliator, I guess I'll try to use that more often, and just keep reapplying the chapstick. I find Blistex's Daily Conditioning Treatment to work great, but I still sometimes have the white flakiness even with that.

Thanks, valerique. I'm definitely not anemic, was just at the doctor's, but am a pescatarian, so maybe it could be iron-related. I haven't been keeping up with my multi-vitamin lately, so thanks for the tip.

Can anybody help ID this colour? I believe it's MAC as it looked a lot like it in the backstage video (0:41 and forth)

how can u make a top lip appear bigger without cosmetic surgery or lip liner?

A tiny bit of highlighter along the cupid's bow. Galliano often does this for Dior and his own line, but that's the theatrical version. It can be done in a subtle way too, and it's really not obvious, but your top lip looks plumper. Liquid highlighter looks more natural than powder.

Im looking for a bright practically neon pink matte lipstick like the one shown on the antonio berardi fall/winter 09-10 runway. Does anyone know who makes one?

^ Make Up Forever #203 is a vivid hot pink. Mac also makes some really bright pinks. I haven't seen the runway makeup you're referring to but I'd say check out those 2 counters. I'm in love with my MUFE one.

I have been looking for lip products that will help me get the Olsen's nude lip look that they have down to an art. : )
An Olsen's Anonymous post recommended Lorac sheer lipstick in nude and Nars lipgloss in striptease..

I'm wondering what you guys would suggest, or if you've tried these, I'd love to have input, because I don't really want to shell out a lot of money for products I can't return.
Thanks!!

Wondering, where can I find this hot pink lip color? A similar one---doesn't matter if its designer or over-the-counter...
