The MAC Makeup Thread

Its all that I wear it really is the best makeup out there with one exception I do wear max factor mascara it has a clumpy 60s effect to it.

maybe try a primer, liner, loose powder to set that first layer, let that completely dry and then hit it again with fluidline. you could even set that and top it off with a pencil liner for the inky finish versus another layer of gel liner.

not happy with my 188 brush. it's so dense and i've already had shedding after using it maybe three times? not impressed. i have the 186 which was LE and have had it for YEARS and have never experienced shedding. also, it's much softer. overall i'm not that impressed with the brushes. i'm glad i only got a few and will try shu for my other needs.
The only MAC face brush I have is the 181, and I like it. I do want to get the fan brush that is a pro exclusive though. My mum has the 168 and she loves it. I'm thinking I may need to get the 165 when it comes back out as well as the 109 and either the 150 or the 138-I need a large powder brush for my bronzer. I also need the 187 but that's another story.

I'm going to try this for work tonight. This gel liner shall not defeat me. It shall stay put on my sodding lid and not wander around my face a second longer!

trista, i used my 232 to line my bottom lash line with nars misfit (a teal and beige duo; i used the teal, obv). LOVE! i can't wait to use it with MAC clarity, which is another color i love lining my eyes with but the 267 isn't quite dense enough to get it in there so it looks polished. this definitely does the trick.

my 186 is a fan brush and a total dream. it has never shed and the bristles are far softer than the 188. they definitely feel all natural, whereas the 188 is natural and synthetic. i think this is what breaks the brush.

Do you mean the 231 or the 212? I've never heard of the 232. I love using them both-the 231 for shadow, the 212 for pigment or glitter, as the width and density allows me to get more, and the flatness of the brush allows me to neatly apply. I am planning on getting Clarity very shortly though-it more than likely is at the outlet, and I do admit, it would be amazing on the waterline.

Yep, the 188 is a duo-fibre brush. I have a friend who loves it because she can get perfect-looking blush from even dark blushes like Frankly Scarlet, which are not the easiest to work with. The main reason I want the 187 is to get a lot more use out of MSF's like Petticoat, which can go on very dark on me. So Ceylon is lovely on me, but many of the MSF's are total glitter-bombs. Not exactly the nicest look.

The Siren - I tried your tip, and my god it worked! Not totally and completely, but usually, I would do my foundation, prime my eye, put eyeshadow then liner and mascara and halfway through the night, the liner was wandering around my brown bone and cheekbones. I put my make up on at nine pm last night, got home at six thirty am and it was still looking pretty good.

You've saved my life!

sorry, trista, i meant the 231. so fab. i did it with clarity today (waterline) and it's a total dream, especially on a warm day when you don't want gobs of makeup, but still want your eyes to pop. i love it because the application is neat and concise. i'm using the 188 to blend out my blush (melba) with a beauty powder (HK tahitian sand) which works well. still disappointed about the shedding, but hopefully that's over with. i wish i'd bought newly minted when it was under the goodbyes, but maybe i can find it at my CCO. i think it would also look great on the waterline.

mindbear - so happy it worked for you! if it worked that well for you on a long night like that, i imagine it will be flawless for a regular day. LOLZ!

I love make up, but I know NOTHING about it. Thank god for people like you who do!

Ironically, of all places, Costco had Newly Minted for awhile! I know that my CCO probably has it, I have to go up soon to get Graphology for my mum. I need Clarity badly, I don't care how similar or dissimilar it is to Electric Eel. I only wish they had pan-form shadows at the outlet...I'm switching, for the most part, to Pro Pans for permanent shadows. Until I get more money, some shadows from the perm line I actually like to have in both potted and pro pan form-ie Beautiful Iris and a highlight. I like the freedom.

I really need Tahitian Sand, however I got Pretty Baby cause I needed that more. I LOVE it. I will need backups.

i received all of my goodies from F&F today. yay! can't wait to experiment with all of these new brushes!

of the new stuff, i'm definitely interested in the style black collection. some of the stuff sounds so kooky, i'm just curious to see how it translates. i know i NEED the photo realism quad from the makeup art cosmetics collection, along with the repromote of haunting. i don't know what collection this was from originally, but i know i missed it and in the end regreted not buying it. the cocomotion pigment sounds interesting as well.

i'm also excited about the collaboration with jin soon choi. MAC is in desperate need of more nail polishes, so i'm glad they're doing this. i know a lot of people dismiss their polishes, but they stay creamy and never get goopy/clumpy which makes them a dream to apply.

I like MAC nail polish. I took some when I got a manicure last weekend, and it was funny ... my manicurist was swooning over the texture of the cap and was calling people over to feel it  I'm completely used to it, but I did see her point ...

I'm really wanting to get Violet Fire here soon...the local Freestanding has it still. I like intense colours though, and it fits the bill.

Hey everyone I am looking for a new foundation.. None of the ones I try seem to sit right. I use a primer before but they seem to look really gross up close.. I dont have perfect skin a fair blemishes I need to cover up too.. My skin is mostly oily/combination but sometimes can get dry so I dont like powder foundation..

Can anyone recommend any mac ones? I want a nice finish that looks good during the day too.. I can purchase off the Mac Australia site but wanted to get the Mac experts opinion first. As for colour I cant wear pink toned foundation so I guess my skin is yellow based? And my face is bit darker then my neck which is hard too

To be honest, I dont think mac is the place to go for foundation. They're great with shadows, pigments and lipsticks but I'd try dior, makeup for ever or shiseido for foundation.

oh ok thanks :) Yeah i dont have a clue right now because I dont have the money to try everything unfortunatly.. Usually I find my foundations out of magazine samples but havent had any lately

I would read reviews on sephora to find the ones you want to try, then go to a sephora and they can make you little samples so you can find the one that works for you. Prabably my favorite coverage was diorskin nude but it's not for oily breakout prone skin. Other good ones are dior capture totale, MUFE HD, MUFE matte velvet for oily skin, shiseido the makeup, shu uemura face architect, lorac breakthrough. I use SK II airtouch right now which is just phenominal - it covers everything and looks completely natural but the price really makes me cringe ($50/6 wks) and the machine clogs so it's not good when your in a hurry.

i use moisturizer, sunscreen and then MAC's studio finish, which comes in a pot like a concealer (but has more coverage). i put it on spot areas (under my eyes, under my nose, etc.) and then blend it out. i have used this for years. i once in awhile try something else, but always come back to MAC. the consistency is creamy and the results are flawless. i do have clear skin and seldom have acne/blemishes to conceal (more like redness or sallowness, as i'm very fair) though, so this may not be for everyone.

other than MAC, i love kevyn aucoin's the sensual skinfinish concealer, which works the same as MAC studio finish but runs about $45 versus $16 or whatever MAC costs. i have normal to dry skin and both products have been in rotation for me for years.

on another note, i just bought bare canvas paint, and put a bit on my eye lid with and for some reason it made my eye pop out...it was such a natural touch! i added a thin black liner and a mascara and wow..it looked amazing...anyone tried the bare canvas?

according to rolling stone magazine lady gaga shot a mac ad. anyone know what its for?
