The MAC Makeup Thread

^ thanks, with the guides online it seems mine is a fake. I'm just going to stop by the store again and see if I can exchange it.

^ I would also report what happened to MAC after your return visit ... sounds like something squirrelly is going on. Perhaps they aren't working very hard on fakes like some other brands are ...

^ Well I went back and they let me exchange it, no problem. But all the 190 brushes were the same, with no country of origin mark and a very suspiciously strong lacquer smell. They definitely look a bit different than the smaller brushes. I don't want to be paranoid, but I'm definitely checking future brushes I buy there, and if they look fishy I'll just place an order online.

^ I would e-mail MAC & see if all have a country of origin. I would think so ... but it would be good to know for sure.

^ mmm yes that's a good idea, I think I'll try the live chat customer service on the site.

So, the girl from the live chat said it was perfectly normal that my 190 didn't have a country mark. Now I feel a little better, hehehe.

so general question to all of you, what's your all time favorite mac product?

i've tried so much mac stuff, but i just haven't been hooked. i do like the brushes tho.

MAC paint pot in painterly. The most perfect lid primer. But I also wear it alone, even if it's pretty much my skintone. I have some very visible veins on my eyelids, and painterly conceals those :).
And Matte eyeshadow in Copperplate. It's my favourite eyeshadow of all time. Perfect for a smokey eye or to add some depth in the crease for a more natural eye. Great for blue eyes!

I can't remember the name at the moment, but it was a red gloss with big bits of glitter with a sexy name that embarrassed the woman who sold it to me (not a typical MAC SA needless to say) I think it was LE ...

For me it's the paint pot in quite natural and the 217 blending brush!:crush:
I cannot live without them! :D

I am new to M.A.C. I'm very familiar with the products and the colors and all, but I always had this idea that M.A.C. was this super expensive, Holy Grail, top of the line company. Maybe that's because I'm a poor college student. In any case, recently I finally went to my local M.A.C. counter right after going to Sephora, only to realize that M.A.C. is not nearly as expensive as I thought. To be sure, it's not cheap, but it's far less expensive than some other brands I've bought from at Sephora like Benefit, Makeup Forever, and Nars.

So basically this realization has made me ridiculously happy and I am now starting up my M.A.C. collection. I literally have a wish list of M.A.C. eye shadows that I want: Mulch, Sable, Shroom, Satin Taupe, All That Glitters, Tempting, and Naked Lunch. I love the brighter, more interesting colors, but I can't pull them off, so i would only get them as gifts for someone.

I have the Bare Study paint pot, but I want Painterly as well. I feel like everyone uses that one or Soft Ochre. Which of the two is better?

^^It depends on what you want to do with it. If you want to use it as an eyelid primer you should look at your skintone; painterly suits pink/neutral tones best while Soft Ochre is yellow toned.

I really don't think MAC is a "top of the line" company. They put out so many new collections, the quality is getting really poor, and I wish they'd stick to what they do best instead of just putting out and endless amount of low-quality limited edition items.

how is the LE stuff lower quality than the permanent items?

the wonder woman stuff seemed like bad color choices, not necessarily bad quality.

^A lot of the eyeshadows are super chalky and even harder to blend than the regular MAC eyeshadows, same goes for blush

I don't know about the quality of the LE products because I've never bought one (I'm always super excited when I see the descriptions and pics online but when I actually see the product irl, I'm quite disappointed by the colours etc.).
But there are so many LE that it gets hard keeping track. I agree they should focus on their permanent products. I would prefer they'd bring out only 4 limited editions, like most brands do.

I have quite a few LE products ... probably about half of what I have. The part that bugs me is that many of my most favorite colors are either LE or discontinued. As far as blushes, it seems like there's never anything new to choose from, the colors that work for the very fair are the ones I've already had. I haven't noticed any difference in quality.

Oh, I think the name of that lipgloss I loved was Sex Ray. Bring it back!!!

I also really love Dove-Feather, which I think was part of the regular line but is discontinued. It is really a fabulous color and I continue to use it even though I hit pan a long time ago ...

I can't gripe about mascara anymore because they've come out with a good one at last, but I do think the quality of the foundation products is low (except for blot powder).

I believe that Mac's best items are lipsticks! Awesome!! On the other hand I believe Mac has the worst mascaras!! i m very disappointed on that issue! I recently bought Blushbaby, Sheertone blush. Great on my skin but don't last long. I m thinking of trying Mac's powder. Should i?

P.s Has anyone try a good Mac mascara?
