The MAC Makeup Thread

I have enough empty makeup container for 2 free lipsticks and then some but I have no idea what to do with them. I do the same makeup everyday (smoky brown eyes) and I feel too made up with lip stick but it's free so I might as well try some. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am N3 pale with brown eyes, full lips and long brown hair. Id give them away but I cant even think of any friends that wear lipstick.

You could also wait for the Blonde Brunette Redhead collection to come out and see if any of those lipsticks/lipglasses appeal to you... they're supposed to be very wearable colors!

Trista, I love reflects bronze, have fun with it!

I am actually liking both of the Reflects that I got. Purple Duo is unusual, it's almost like glitter with pigment in it. It's very indigo, not as purple as I would have hoped personally, but I will get a lot of use out of it. Reflects Bronze, on the other hand, is indeed gorgeous. It will be a very useful colour for me, and it means that I can skip Reflects Antiqued Gold, as I now have both Bronze and Gold. I am seriously considering getting Transparent Teal now though...it is on its way out after all.

My mom and I used to always go to the holiday cosmetics/fragrances nights at the Bay (big Canadian department store) when I was younger and only stopped when I moved away for University. One year the girls at MAC gave me a full container of Golden Olive pigment for free... I've had it for probably three or four years and never touched it. After years of staring at it, I am determined to wear it today! Anybody else have this and have any suggestions? I think I'm just going to blend it into some brighter gold colors.

Chaneller-Fleshpot is a Pro shade, so you can call the Pro hotline and they should have it.

Thank you Trista! :flower:

They don't carry those @ MAC in Sweden or Finland but I'll be in Miami next month so I hope to get it there! :)

I don't actually have Golden Olive, but it would indeed be good with brighter golds or with some greens. If you even have one neutral-ish shade, I would suggest that you use Golden Olive with it. Another idea is to use your favourite highlight shade from lash to brow and then use Golden Olive in the crease and as a lower liner, then use a brown liner as your top liner.

Those are good suggestions! I'm definitely going to try using it with browns in the future, I think that would look really nice. This is what I ended up doing:

Applied Base Light paint (very sparkly soft gold) lightly over the lid and then put a light layer of Golden Olive over that using my 224. I could probably wear Golden Olive every day for ten years and not run out... that's how little of it you need to get a LOT of color. I wanted to tone down the green, though, so I found one of my holiday palettes from four or five years ago and put a layer of Era (taupe-gold) over the Golden Olive. It seemed a little dull though so I put some Honey Lust from the same palette on to add a bit of sparkle. But it still felt like something was missing... so I took a little bit of Parrot (also from this holiday palette) and put that on the inner third of my eyelid and just blended it out so it sort of moves from blue-gold into green-gold. I also lined with golden olive to keep a bit of the bright green tone. Then mascara, and done!

Not a look I would wear to class every day, but kind of fun for a change.

That actually is a really nice combination, and if you did a white instead of Parrot, or Honey Lust instead of Parrot, it would be quite striking. Also if Bright Sunshine is available on the main site anytime, GRAB IT. It is a frost, but it's a frost like Cool Heat-it takes a lot of effort. However, with effort and primer it is gorgeous-and it's a true bright frosty yellow, not a subdued golden yellow or a butter yellow.

The nice thing about pigments is that most of the time, you won't need a ton and a jar can last you several years. I do buy backups very rarely of LE ones-I have a jar of Helium on backstock, and I want to get Mutiny and Viz-a-Violet backed up (the latter because the jar comes so empty)-because they are unique, at least to me. I use a lot of Fuschia as well. I'm not somebody who will buy samples though because I like to do crazy looks, and if I need to do a costume I like the freedom to have enough to do my look.

You can also get either a lipgloss or eyeshadow if lipstick's not really your thing.

You can only get the eyeshadow or lipglass at a freestanding store-at counters, you are limited to lipsticks. I know sometimes they don't allow you to use your empties on special packaging but that's always something you want to check with the artists about.

So I ended up getting fluidline in Blacktrack, Bare Study paint pot, Kanga-Route l/s and Possum Nose Pink l/g from my appointment yesterday. They were sold out of Hot Frost l/g already but I went to another store today to pick that up. Possum Nose Pink is definitely my favorite of the collection. I can tell it's going to be my go-to lipglass for the mornings when I'm barely awake enough to apply make-up before class.

I'm actually feeling Red Devil (from BBR) a lot more. I don't have a warm red lipglass-all of my red lipglasses are either cooler, or more muted. Also I would much rather go for Reflects Transparent Teal than get more lipglasses, because I'm using my glitters a LOT nowadays.

^Sorry if this has already been answered, but I received the Little Darlings Cool Pigments and Glitter set, which came with a mini sample of Reflects of Blackened Red. I have no idea what to do with it, and I really don't want to waste it. So how should glitters be worn (since I heard that they were not eye-safe)?

^nevermind. I found the post that explains everything. Sorry in advance.

Chaneller - there is one MAC store in Miami that carries pro-products :

I impulsively picked up the 217 brush today while helping my make-up wary friend pick out lipstick. Can't wait to play around with it, I love brushes!

The MUA and I also had a laugh over the terrible wigs on the BBR girls in the promotional images. Has anyone had a chance to check out the products early/any thoughts? I'm trying to narrow my list down to just three or four lipsticks and lipglasses.

From what I've seen, it looks to be a lot of basic colours. I saw some swatches of the lipsticks and eyeshadows and such...and the shadows all look to be fairly decent, and the lip shades are very wearable. I personally don't have a whole lot of use for the eye shades, as they are mostly neutral, and then a few lip shades are nice, but nothing too spectacular. Red Devil is looking to be the standout in the collection, however B-Babe also looks to be a nice, everyday pink.

Gah! So I FINALLY went down to the MAC counter to get the two Chill e/s I wanted, Arctic Grey & Apres Ski and the purple Dame Edna trio and ALL of it was sold out! Everything I wanted! Boo hoo! Something tells me it is an omen.

^That's so annoying

I got Apres Ski eyeshadow & Frozen Dream lipglass from the Chill collection. I wasn't totally sold on Apres Ski when I bought it but it's really nice and a useful colour, I use it to tone down my eyeshadows when I want them more subtle. Frozen Dream is very pretty, its not super pink on my lips but brightens my face overall.

From BBR, I really think I want all the brunette shadows - I think they're just the kind of colours I want to add to my collection. I preferred the lipsticks/glosses in the promo pics, swatches don't seem as nice.

I'm also interested in switching from UDPP to a paint/paint pot. UDPP has been revolutionary for me, but I hate the packaging and it's not as good value as the Mac products...but are they equally as good? Which does everyone prefer? :flower:

I actually am going to have to say neither of them. Paints are nice to have on hand, but I much prefer a CCB. Shell, Luna, and Pearl are all great to have, and they have very similar lasting power to UDPP. Also with a CCB, you could use it as a cheek highlight. It's about the same price as UDPP-which I believe is going up in price-but you can use it with your fingers or with a 242.

The thing I have seen so far with the Royal Tour trio is that it is very easily duplicated. I am not surprised that they are selling out though...
