The MAC Makeup Thread

I bought a great concealer today - Studio Finish SPF35 in NC15 - it really works, you barely need to use any of it to cover a blemish or a mark! I'm very impressed, considering the last MAC concealer I bought wasn't that great.

i have very fair, clear skin, so this is what i use daily. just under my eyes, under my nose and i blend it out then soften it with the 187. it's a dream, and i try to use actual foundations/other brands and i always come back to this.

trista - i recently bought a dark blue shadow when i was near a CCO. it's larger than most shadows and has seashell-type grooves embossed on it. do you know what collection this is from? it is a deep blue with subtle shimmer. pretty pigmented too.

trying to think of everything i've acquired lately (mostly from CCO)
- glimmerstick in a pale neutral coral shimmer (love the consistency of this)
- newly minted shadow
- warm chill shadow
- beiging shadestick (i've wanted this a long time, but i'm only half-impressed)
- new money eyeliner

and two of the jin soon polishes (i ended up passsing on the brown)
- beyond jealous
- dry martini

You got a Brushed Metal-X shadow, and I believe the name is Metalblu:) I don't do a lot of the cream shadows, but I love CCB's as a shadow base.

Anyway, I got to see Style Black (they didn't have the Dazzleglass Cremes) and each counter and store got less than ten of the Greasepaint Stick, and the mask is already sold out at many places. Dsquared2 is releasing on Monday, to coincide with the day of the spring fashion show.

yes, that's it! what collection was it from (was it called brushed metal-x)? i don't remember these big shadows at all. i really love it and need to delve into more pigmented shadows because the plain ol' pans aren't doing it for me. i'm craving more glamour for the cooler weather, i guess.

i haven't seen style black yet, but i think the only thing i want is the greasepaint stick. it looks fab on the model in the promo. the polishes are a bust, and i might try the dazzleglass with the gold flecks. i saw them swatched on youtube and they're so sheer, they're completely wearable.

The collection was Metal Urge, and it came out around Thanksgiving last year. It was 7 of those Metal-X, plus Liquidlast liners and then four Reflects glitters, two of which had never been to counters.

They actually are called Glimmerglass, and I almost tried Blackfire but I don't need anymore lip stuff. I did buy a pan of Freshwater as I have had my eye on that for months, and I am going to be doing a lot more blues for the holidays. The Greasepaint Sticks have sold out, and all the Dsquared2 ones have been presold as well as the local Freestanding. I have a feeling that they may become permanent if enough people email MAC about them. Anyways, though, the Glimmerglasses feel really nice. They're sticky, but it's lighter than the Dazzleglasses. The DG Cremes, on the other hand-I've heard negative reviews. I don't need any-if anything, I need to replace a few Dazzleglasses.

I love love looove my MAC Chatterbox lipstick. It's so nice! I've never been a fan of lipstick, but after I bought this I'm wearing lipstick all the time.

i was wrong all together! it's not a glimmer anything, it's a slimshine. i'm not a fan of mac glosses of any sort really (though the lip gelees are tolerable) and i really love this slimshine consistency. i want something a little more made up for FW, but i loved this sheer color to finish off summer.

i haven't worn the cream shadow yet, but i might try it tonight. the consistency is only slightly creamy and it's not very messy to work with like i imagine a cream shadow to be.

mmm...greasepaints! i think i'm getting the black and purple, if i like them enough (black is a definite).

OK, i tried the cream shadow and it's kind of a PITA. i'm using a 239 and probably need to buy a 242 for this. it isn't bad application, but not precise enough either. in this experimenting with actual pigmented shadows, i'm also realizing i have way too many blending and shader brushes and hardly any that are fit for true color deposit.

I actually would almost go a 194 or 195-I find concealer brushes are great for cream shadows. You'll definitely want to get a 242, though, if you plan on buying more Metal-X shadows.

I like Slimshines for summery looks, and I used a lot of Tropic Glow last year. However I find that I'm into more pigmented looks with little to no gloss-hence my love for Amplifieds. I'm not a person who really differentiates between makeup seasons, as I have the same sort of looks I do all year round: semi-neutral for job hunting/interviews, brights, and then pastels.

Thoughts on eyeshadows Trax and Naked Lunch? They will probably be my first Mac purchases...

Naked Lunch-a lot of people like it, but I hate neutrals so this won't be in my 15'er anytime soon.

Trax-I have it in the Gem Eyes palette, and I like it. I've resisted getting it for my 15'er only because right now, I want to get shadows that I don't necessarily already have in another thingy. That's the same reason I've held off on Parfait Amour and Shale, even though I need those both in my 15'er. (I instead got Freshwater, which I love to death)

Belowen, I suggest that the first shade you get be Coppering. It is seriously one of my most-used shadows, and it makes the prettiest liner. It's almost a rust colour, and it's one non-matte that I got my matte-loving mum to get.

BTW...Blue Flame from Style Black looks very promising. I hope I find the time to look into it soon. Hello killer smoky eyes - with a little help from our friend Contrast...

Mmm...Contrast. My ultimate blue shadow-as-liner shadow is definitely Freshwater, it's what I wanted Sea & Sky to be.

Thanks for the feedback Trista! I love neutrals so I will definitely be trying the Naked Lunch, I'll be adding Coppering to the list too it seems!

Ta-Ta, what is your colouring like? Can you explain a bit about why you didn't like Trax? was it too dark?

I just hope Blue Flame is pigmented enough. Stupid MES.
All these MES looked fairly pigmented to me, you just have to base them. Shell CCB is the best base for MES, from what I found-it picks up the shimmer and it isn't thick like UDPP is.

My coloring is similar to my avatar  I prefer a more purple purple ... it's kind of plum, too red I guess, and perhaps a bit too glittery. I guess my coloring is going to pull the red. Sometimes I want a copper looking color--that wasn't what I wanted from Trax, but in the end it's neither fish nor fowl. (Star Violet is what I wear when I want copper.) I got an LE quad last fall I think that has purples I like better.

I like the discontinued neutral Dovefeather ... for greys, Idol Eyes, LE Pincurl, I've gone thru lots of Silver Ring (so that might be good for you), Black Tied for a smoky touch ... the LE quad purples I like are Smudged Violet and Shadowy Lady. Also like Poison Pen. I like Mylar for a pale neutral. That would probably go well with your spring color scheme ...

As far as other perm colours I like, Pink Freeze is a good one. Cranberry, Beautiful Iris, Star Violet, Stars 'n Rockets, Parfait Amour, Plum Dressing-those are all good purples. I have NOT tried Satellite Dreams, but I so want it. Sushi Flower is a very good one once you get the hang of it. From the current Makeup Art Cosmetics collection, I love all the shadows-they're like candy. I've appropriated my mum's Purple Shower, so I have to get my own here soon. Fresh Green Mix (a mineralized shadow) is awesome, too. Of course, I love Freshwater and anything bright, bright, bright. Goldmine and Amber Lights are good for more neutral looks, and my mum swears by Embark. I use Crystal Avalanche as a highlight. And if you can get Violet pigment, do so. It's amazing.

Here's swatches of the lippies, the lipsticks are inaccurate as my camera hit the frost but not the base colour! This gives you an idea of the glosses, though. Picture taken by me.

what's the name of the pale pink gloss on the bottom left corner? it's so pretty  oh and could you please name the (e/s?) shades on top too? if it's not too much to ask

btw, have you guys tried the pearlglide eye liner? the shades are AMAZING! i got one in rave which is an amazing deep violtey kind of hue with sparkles!
i bought it on a whim after being brainwashed to add purple to my must-haves list by stunning purple looks all over the internet since the beginning of summer (Troy Jensen im looking at you!) and now i have no idea how to use it in order to get the look i want, ehm..
anyways, i just wanted to recommend this to all of you ladies who are looking for an amazing violet shade (and those who know how to use colored eyeliners :p )

You should try the Shiseido Hydro Power Eyeshadows as well. Mine is in Glistening Sands, kind of a muted gold colour, and it makes Contrast kick ***. It sounds odd putting something blue over a gold colour, but it just looks fantastic. It also does well under a fab grey I have from Bourjois. It just grabs whatever you put on top of it and makes it look so vibrant.

I kinda figured that the MES need some base...stupid MES  I wanted to get Family Silver for the longest time, but then I found that stunning Bourjois instead.
