The Mascara Thread

It's not in the poll but, i've pretty much found my near-HG mascara: Cover Girl Fantastic Lash!

Can you believe it? i am so NOT a CG fan at all, but i've been using this mascara (black) for 3 weeks now and i'm very happy.

Effects: loooong and full pretty pretty lashes, looks like falsies. i usually use lots of black eyeliner, but i find i don't need to with Fantastic Lash.

Pros: The pretty pretty lashes! Super easy to remove, just face cleanser + H2O (no need for loads of eyemakeup remover). Doesn't smudge all day on me. i've walked (w/ a hoodie) in snow/rain, and lasted when Clinique/L'oreal/Maybelline died on me. Sweet price!

Cons: Not sure... i'm still putting this mascara through the ringer. Out of 21 days of happy happy use, i had one negative situation: One day after 8hrs of wear i rubbed my eye & a flake fell in. i then purposely made my eyes tear up to wash it out & resulted in lots of little flakes falling in my eye. Had to dash off and wash the stuff off.

Yet, another day i came home (after 8hrs work) and hubs surprised me by taking his wet-dishwashing hands and rubbing my face with them - rubbing my lashes on the way. Mascara smudged just a little, easily wiped off from cheek. Tested for flakes by rubbing my eye and forcing tears again - trying to see if Situation 1 would repeat, didn't happen.

It's 99.99999999% HG status for me. i've was a Definicils gal for many years (since 1990) but found over years formula's changed, dries out quickly, increased price and not the same kind of va-voom effect. i've used: L'Oreal, Max Factor, MAC, Revlon, Clinique, Almay, Maybelline (+ some others) and have found them to range from utter crap to pretty good. Nothing has ever pleased me this much - so i'll keep testing CG Fantastic Lash and will repurchase.

So the only thing keeping me back from 100% HG status is: i don't know how it'd hold up if i burst into tears one day.

Out of all the mascaras i've used, Definicils was the only non-waterproof mascara that saw me through pouring rain sans hoodie/brolly AND heartbreak and all the resulting bawling-sessions, without smearing my face or giving me raccoon eyes.

This is a copy of what i submitted in the mascara poll.

Can you believe it? i am so NOT a CG fan at all, but i've been using this mascara (black) for 3 weeks now and i'm very happy.

Effects: loooong and full pretty pretty lashes, looks like falsies. If you find it a little clumpy, an eyelash comb goes through it easily. i usually use lots of black eyeliner, but i find i don't need to with Fantastic Lash.

Pros: The pretty pretty lashes - long, thick, defined! Super easy to remove, just face cleanser + H2O (no need for loads of eyemakeup remover). Doesn't smudge all day on me. i've walked (w/ a hoodie) in snow/rain, and lasted when Clinique/L'oreal/Maybelline died on me. Sweet price!

Cons: Ever so slightly drier formulat - but i've found if you pump the brush in the tube (10x+) you'll get a wetter product. Otherwise, i'm still putting this mascara through the ringer. I tried YSL Mascara Longueur Intense today and it did a lovely job of lengthening and separating my lashes, and plus it smells really nice for some reason (unlike most mascaras whch smell waxy)

Unfortunately this did smudge a little bit at the end of the day, but then again it was a pretty hot (35 degrees C) and humid day so I'll give this mascara another try on a cooler day B)

MissPurple, Shu Mascara basic is totally smudge free, however its more of a natural looking mascara
Hey Prada P!

has your YSL Longeur Intense mascara flake?
have u tried it out on "THE other day" yet?

coz i wore my Dior maximeyes today and it kind of flaked!
so embarrassing! :(
is it just me? or was it a hot day that makes mascara flakes off ?
does anyone else's Dior maximeyes flake as well?

gruvee chick! r u sure CG is that good? maybe i should give it a try too! B)

btw, the cons sound pretty scary!
should i try it too? um...
r u sure it's safe to use?

I agree it's imortant for mascara not to run but I like to look of my eyes when I stepped into the rain for a moment and the bases of my lashes are wet. When they dry they leave just a liitle residue around the eyes that looks sweet, like you shed one tear and was brave.

u r so cute, substance! :flower:
u must take a picture and show me!

btw, Has anyone ever used any of these mascaras?
any reviews?

- Fibre Rich Lash from Mac
- Ultimeyes from Dior
- Everything Mascara from Bobbi Brown
- Parad'Eyes from Givenchy
- Versace Gorgeous Curling Mascara
- YSL Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils, £17
- Estée Lauder individualist lash building mascara, £13.50
- Stila mascara, £13
- New Rochas Mascara!!!

I need to buy a new mascara, but does anyone think Dior Show is too "dramatic" for everyday use?

Rochas is not a leading name in cosmetics, i'd say try a brand that already has experience in building mascaras

my choice remains with Definicils by Lancome.

when i want a 'dramatic lash' effect i just add the adorable Longcilextender (by Longcils Boncza -Paris) between coats, it really makes a huge difference :flower:

my eyelashes are really long, but straight. so i need to curl them before i put any mascara on.

the ONLY mascara that doesnt weigh my eyelashes back down again (after ive curled them) is Meybelline full and soft.

if i want them fuller and thicker at night, id go over it with YSL's mascara, the one in the gold tube :P

Hmmm maybe I should give CG fantastic lash a try next time...

I love Maybelline Full & Soft..
I second that! It's easy to apply, doesn't clump, and makes lashes look "full and soft" :P

I've used Lancome's Amplicils... and it clumps if you don't apply it quick enough.

MAC is alright.. it somehow uncurls my lashes..

Maybelline's Lash Discovery is good for lower lashes

even though I never thought CG had any decent product, that mascara sounds amazing :woot:

bobbi brown! its really light and refreshing, doesn't weigh down lashes but still darkens them!

after reading the review here on the Cover Girl Fantastic Lash, I got it today and I say it is indeed fantastic
makes my lashes full and soft, separates and defines, and does not smudge at all! it does weigh down the lashes but Shiseido Mascara Base solves the problem.
I still like Lancome Definicils slightly more since Definicils lenghtens my lashes better and maybe because I'm just used to everything about Definicils :P
however, CG Fantastic Lash is very very close to where Lancome Definicils is at and now I know that I have another option other than Definicils

cannot produce enough bad publicity for bourjois pump up the volume mascara which dries too fast, clumps,it does last and provides some curl but the volume part of their advertisment is all a big black alice cooper eyed lie
oh and liliojAnna, lancome is a no go for me too, definicils made few of the few precious eyelashes flutter away and drop out
YSL Faux cils and Dior maximeyes-immaculate
L'Oreal Volumissime 4x is a good middle class mascara, works up an even better volume than MF's 2000calories

Yes Voluminous is an old favourite. But I find that Lash Out is less clumpy and more natural looking.

the rimmel mascara with a little comb(can't remember its name for the love of make up ) is as much fun as fashion gods have intended it to be but it is too light to go as anything but daywear unless you have nice lush broomsticky eyelashes which need only such tending to
heavy volume mascara connoisseurs,i'm all for advice and perhaps a new mascara

such a shame we don't have cover girl in croatia
