The Row - The All-Things The Row Thread

thanks for all the replies....my friend told me they had a small selection at Joyce central. the skirt was about HK$6300 and the dress about $6900 these were both on sale. My friend didn't manage to go back so I missed out on those, but it seems they are over-priced compared to the USA anyway. Thanks again! BTW they only had blacks

^atrocious shipping costs/import duties etc...
also their US RRP is lower than what a general/average mark up should be on those kinda pieces.
did i already mention that Le BonMarché didnt sale ANY of their pieces... (i think i did) when the entire rest of the store is on sale

what should i use to hand wash the shirts? i have one in viscose and one on modal. leyla, thank you for recommending genie but they don't sell it where i live :(

Speaking about Le Bon Marché, they said they will receive in august the new collection of The Row. Does anybody have seen the autumn/winter collection???? What about Maria Luisa??will they keep selling some items??

could anyone who has recently gotten row pieces post pictures of them wearing it? I know everyone would love that so much!!

agree^

mode, just use normal washing up liquid or powder. either should be fine :)

zahir, A/W collections should be in anytime now and I am pretty sure Le Bon Marché will carry it ;)

yeah i really wish NAP stocked their stuff online, don't know why they are carrying E&J instead....maybe the Row doesn't produce enough to sell online? not sure....

meg,
i saw that too.. i think it would have been the one or the other i.e. E&J or The Row. most possibly E&J will bring more money to NAP for it being commercial

I think that in fashion world you can find any alternative for any item. Do you see, for example, Ermanno Scervino or Alberta Feretti quality of fabrics?
To me public exitement around The Row links with Glam-world opinion that MK&A are style icons
.
We should remember that all Hollywood girls work with stylists. SDtylists mold public opinion. MK&A are no exception.Sometimes they look not bad, but I remember a lot of Olsen's fashion mistakes, like vintage Missoni dress and hairband on MK, she looked like vagabond...
And also I want say, that all brands under star names-are products of co-operating work of a lot of people. JLo, SJP,MK&A-they all just give their's names to group of designers.

aquamarina,
agree that the fact that the olsens are style icons helps but customers spending that amount of money are often more clever and the "hype" would die down once they realise the collection is nothing special :) (if that was the case)
may i also add that JLO or SJP's collection ARE indeed targeted at a complete different market at that price range and are nowhere near in terms of design.
The Row is a niche brand with Ashley at the helm of it... possibly a few assistants but that is just normal...Ashley is one of those designers who is hands on throughout and is passionate about what she does. She more or less chooses every single store her collection goes in and studies the brands the retailers carry before any decision.
I doubt the likes of JLO et al would ever end up in the same store as The Row, again its not meant to attract the same customer.
I believe there is a lot of confusion as to why The Row is getting so much attention simply because the majority of their fans (MK&A's) cant afford to dress up in their clothes (and are often not happy with that idea).. but that wasnt the purpose of The Row in the first place anyway. There are a lot of other brands they can buy to simulate their look but lets not make The Row sound as if it is targeted at the Olsen's fans because it is not ;)

Have they added anything new to the collection or is it still just t-shirts and blazers?

^idk if you've been through this whole thread but it's not "just t-shirts and blazers"

Ashley does seem to be completely in control of every area of The Row, but E&J seems to be growing at a rather fast rate and getting equally bigger coverage. Six months ago it wasn't getting as much attention and almost seemed like an after-thought...I remember reading it was more MK's line but I wonder if Ash took it over recently and this is why it is doing better. She seems a little better at all this than MK...

I agree Leyla that E&J is more commercially, but likewise I could see the Row selling out. I'm sure they've done their numbers though. NAP is constantly expanding their midpriced ranges so this would also make sense.

^
I still think MK deals with E&J more than Ashley does. I thought I read somewhere that E&J was licensed and i was really surprised but I can't remember where that was. Regardless, E&J seems more MK's thing and she wears the line a decent amount. That said, she's always said she prefers acting and the fashion designer/retailing thing seems much more Ash so not quite sure what has caused the E&J surge. Perhaps just their product. I must say out of the millions of mid-range Nordstrom level brands that are out there, E&J's designs are always interesting and not just blatant knock-offs of other designer goods.

E&J is produced by the same company (L'Koral) that makes 7 for all Mankind Jeans and contemporary label La Rok, if I remember correctly, so I doubt MK has any input past making minor suggestions (in the manner of theme and basic influences for a particular season) and rejecting designers' sketches she doesn't totally agree with. The Row, on the other hand, is totally its own company (which is one of the many reasons that account for the higher price), and Ashley does everything from designing (she works with a pattern maker, no doubt) to scouting fabrics and places of manufacture. :)
