The Row - The All-Things The Row Thread

yeah that tshirt is great. I love the seaming of the saddle shoulder. Very subtle but interesting. Have they bumped up their prices slightly? I thought they might have....some of the stuff is on the high end for what it is I thought, for example the lambskin ruched leather jacket....

YES they have DEFINITELY raised the price  I remember I bought my shirt for some thing like $195 now a shirt is over $300!!!

^ It's not, they actually have a bunch of Row tees on there and some pants.

they weren't on there when i looked...i think they did an update overnight...

none of those t-shirts are the same as the original ones (there were 2 different materials to start with, one with $195 and the other was $225)...
i saw the waffle tee and the knit tee at barneys sf a couple of weeks ago, and they aren't as slouchy as the other t (which i have)...

the more I'm looking at the new stuff, a bit more put off I am with their increased prices. I didn't have too many objections to their price point before, which was high, but now it just seems a bit silly, esp. because people like AA are now coming in with some of the seaming techniques. Like the "skinny pants" with the french seam, which is arguably, an interesting detail and not necessarily easy to execute, but they are $700 for what amounts to basically leggings. And I really would expect AA to put out a legging with that exact type of seam within the year. The fur and the leather, fair enough (though I would prefer the leather jacket to have a nicer lining than rayon if they are charging above RO prices). The waffle knit shirt is another example. Bamboo cotton? Great, love that. Also love waffle knit in general and the flattened collar detail. But it's certainly not worth $300. $195 or $200, okay, I'd let that go but for that price I'd rather go to Rogan for bamboo cotton.

i think they still make the sheer, slouchy style, just not for this winter collection. i could be wrong as my knowledge on the row is minimal, but that's what my friend told me.

maybe someone else could fill us in? i'd be very disappointed if they discontinued the other styles.

^ yes, they still make the original versions...
at barneys they had the black v-neck, white v-neck and charcoal grey crewneck ones...

meg, you're totally right...
when i saw them i thought, '$300 for a thermal t-shirt?' i can get one from splendid that's $60...
i'm interested to see what alexander wang's tee collection will retail for when it hits stores...

^About A.Wangs tees i think i've heard something like $28-$40 wholesale
that sounds pretty cheap so i'm doubtful

well it was a bit confusing, because I thought the WWD article said that the T by Alexander Wang collection would retail for under $40 which I thought was crazy low. Either way, they are aiming to different markets. A. Wang will be competing with AA, Splendid, Michael Stars, etc. Regardless, I'll be interested to know how their basic tee's are selling domestically with this price hike. I could see it going either way to be honest. Since they have such limited production and distribution, they probably aren't going to be left with loads of unsold merchandise and they may sell out to those who can afford basics at this price. On the other hand, they may find that even those who can afford may prefer to spend less to get RO or another high end basic brand and then just shell out the cash for the leather leggings, blazers, fur coat, etc. ie the big ticket items, which seems to me to be an inverse selling model of just about all fashion houses. But who knows.

Leyla - do you have any thoughts on this? I know you said the Row has always sold really well for you....

there are a few more pieces up on barney's... some skinny pants and a couple button-downs.

Just a little question. Are their t-shirts very feminine? Or could they be worn by guys too?

I mean, they seem pretty unisex to me. I've seen Alexander Wang wear one of their t shirts and it looked cool.

What do you guys think?

What do you all find to be the best alternatives to the Row V-neck tees? I'm obsessed with the sheerness and cut, but unwilling to shell out $300. Everything I find seems to lose it's shape after a wash.

but they aren't even better fabric or quality. they have a crewneck short sleeve shirt in modal which imo looks very unflattering and it costs $275. i have the original u-necks in viscose and modal and there is not enough of a difference in fabric, cut, or quality to warrant an extra $50 or $80.

so.. i did my best on paint

I definitely think men could wear all the shirt, regardless of size. The saddle shoulder shirt esp. And thanks so much for posting the pics here. I do think some of their stuff is great, that slim cut leather blazer with the skinny lapels is lovely. But that shirt is um....wtf?! Seriously though, it's looks like a pajama shirt. I'm all for great white button down but the widespread collar on that shirt is terrible.

I want to know this too. I would love a slouchy very thin white v-neck tee like MK wears (everytime I've asked been told its The Row) but realistically...$300 for it? Mmm not at this time...think I could probably find something at AA but went in there too and their v-neck thin white tees are not soft enough.

I really like James Perse scoop/wide neck t-shirts. They're not as sheer as the row ones though. Anyone else have a better alternative?

I like the shirt. I think they do good basics..
bit pricey though...

sorry if this has been asked but is the line available in the UK?
