^i only caught the final set so i didn't even know about the fight. what is all that about exactly? did he steal their seat or something?

good match from sam stosur. i didn't think much of her chances coming in because of her injury and her overall summer season but she is looking so impressive. she's playing explosively and with so much purpose again. like she was at RG.

and frannie just a bit ago had a fun match with bondarenko the elder. she did a federer-like 'tweener shot that got the crowd roaring after she won the point. i love her....she is so much fun to watch when she's confident. another one, imo, that didn't look so great coming in but my how impressive has she been.

A woman was complaining at this young guy because I think he was swearing loudly. She actually slapped him but the guy sat down after they'd argued. Then the woman's father went over and started trying to wrestle him and they fell down three rows of seats. Apparently all three of them got chucked out by security. It's all on youtube of course.

I haven't seen any of Fran's matches but I've heard they've been very entertaining so I'm looking forward to her next round against Pavlyuchenkova.

I saw the last couple of sets of Ryan Harrison's match. That kid is quick! Sad for him that he had three match points in the final set tiebreak but just got a little tight. He'll bounce back I'm sure. He's still in Mixed Doubles with Melanie Oudin.

The US Open site has video of Schiavone's hotdog shot from her win over Bondarenko. She said afterwards about it: "Is nothing programmed. Is just instinct. Is art."

^haha! love that.

i watched that match and it was absolutely exhilarating.

ironically,i feel like frannie and sam stosur, given the match-ups they've had and will have,by far,are playing the best tennis amongst the top girls at the moment. and frannie is really looking like that same player we saw at RG. she's just got that fire in her belly. even with the form coming in,she just seems to have that extra belief in herself. i think their next matches are going to be very telling....frannie,of course, against anastasia and sam plays lena. if they get through those,i've got a strong feeling they'll go far. as much as i would love to see lena go far, perhaps win,she hasn't looked that spectacular to me yet. definitely not the lena we all know.

If the roles were reversed and he slapped her, he'd probably been arrested and blasted all over news as "woman abuser".

All three participants in the fight have been banned from the US Open for two years.

I'm rooting for Wozniacki and Sharapova for the women's title so I'm sad to see that my favorites are gonna battle it out int he 4th round. I'm sure it's going to be mouthwatering match though!

As for the men's, I really like Federer's and Djovovic's chances. They're both playing really well right now, given the crap weather and the windy conditions.

Gilles Simons gf gave birth to their baby four weeks early (I had no idea, but he did have lots of time off with injury last year ;) ) during his match with Kohlschreiber! Rafa jokingly offered to buy him a ticket back to France before their match later today  So he says if he wins, he's happy, and if he loses, even better because he can go home. I'm excited for that match anyway!

^haha! it's great to see gilles back again though. and congrats to the new papa.

my,my....did frannie put on a clinic today against anastasia. i thought for certain it would be much tougher but frannie is seriously showing her champion's spirit this week.

YESSSS!
Murray's out, its starting to really take shape for Nadal to pull his 3rd major for the year

Go RAFA!!

Rafa says one match at a time :judge::lol:
Nice match for Stan though, I'm glad he was able to keep going and get the win ^_^

outstanding match from lena and sam last night! it's now the latest finished women's match in history. certainly though more befitting of a semifinal or final....too bad only a R16. but to me that one was more interesting, given lena's history at the open and of course sam's play of late, than the much-hyped woz and sharapova one. and it turned out to be the best one so far. and that's a great win for sam too because she has only won one in five meetings with dementieva.

and how uncharacteristic was it to see lena so animated and emotional? in fact this entire summer season she's been like that. she usually stays so calm when things don't always go her way but she's been very negative lately. of course,i can't blame her. it must be frustrating having an opportunity like she had at RG only to get an injury. and her form has been a little off since then...maybe even longer since she had that shoulder issue in dubai. she just hasn't been looking like the same elena dementieva to me.

I didn't get to see it unfortunately, but definitely seems like a match that should have been played later in the tournament, actually like so many that have happened already.
It's disappointing...she's such a wonderful player and personality but I think very under appreciated...then, I look at what Schiavone did this year and think Elena still has chances, big things can definitely still happen for her.

I feel like Dementieva's chances are actually slipping away. Maybe she can regain some better form because with the right draw I feel like she could certainly make another slam final. But she seems to slip up at the vital moments. Must be some sort of mental block. And her mother always looks so devastated when her daughter is losing.

Wozniacki-Sharapova should by rights have been later in the tournament too. Caro is certainly looking like the #1 seed right now and must have put her detractors in their place with this win.

im soo Proud of Wozniacki, Sharapova was smacking those balls...i really got nervous for a minute...now my number one pic to win the Us Open has no one in her way till MAYBE the finals

Monfils just was spectacular today, i missed Soderling's Match but it looks like it will be him and Federer(in which im hoping Fed wins).....I would love a Nadal/Federer final

they are at both ends of the draw but that would be a match to die for

I'm sure it's going to be mouthwatering match though!

You said it right! :brows: Happy for Wozniacki, Sharapova played great but it just wasn´t enough.

i tell you, american commentators leave so much to be desired. following yesterday's matches on the women's side, not only did one have the gall to say that cibulkova is "inexperienced" in majors(completely forgetting she was in the semis of RG last year)but then after vera zvonareva won,i was told, that one of the male commentators had audacity to say straight to vera's face that "she's crazy sometimes". and there wasn't even just cause to even bring that up because she didn't show emotion. and to paint somebody who's actually a very pleasant young woman with such a label is egregiously offensive. if that were me,i would have said wait a second, you invite me up here just to insult me? interview done. but true to vera's class as a person and an elite athlete she just went on about the interview. and then i read after kaia kanepi beat wickmayer, doug adler, who does the interactive commentating was quoted as saying in response about kaia being shy "Of course she's shy--she's from Estonia. No one's from Estonia.". i mean, firstly, what does that have to with anything? and secondly, you do realise estonia is an actual country? idiot.

it's just that level of ignorance, sexism and so many make such a mockery of women's tennis. it's almost as if you're not american or american by proxy,no one in our media takes any of these women very seriously.
