side note...anyone else thinks Schiavone looks like a cute guy...its kinda weird but she looks Hawt today

^did you see frannie's brother at RG? he was the one wearing the sunglasses....they look just alike.

wacky day yesterday. i wish the wind would die down already...it's ruining the quality of the matches. the serves have really been the most affected by the wind all week long on the women's side.

can you guys believe that caroline is no.2 with a chance to be no.1 and still has not beaten a top 5 player in 18 months? 18 months?! you know,if ever there was justification for argument that would be a big point. it goes beyond merely not having a major. i mean, clijsters, mauresmo, safina, ivanovic and jankovic at least all had the wins when they were on that verge of taking the top spot and even whilst there. and then i look and i see sam stosur-granted had a bit of a dip during the summer-and she has wins over serena(at a major no less) and JJ.

you know it makes me miss the days when the tour rankings still had the quality points. they would account bonus points for who they beat, how they beat them and even where they beat them too. to me,it just added a lot more depth and substance to the system.

^ I agree. Even though I complain about one person being at #1 forever, women's game needs a bit of stability.

All that being said, I do hope Caroline wins. I've liked her since the beginning and there's no one I'd like to see take the #1 from Serena more!

so thrilled to see vera in a consecutive final! hurrah! i have to say she deserves it. she's played so positively all tournament long and today i think she just went out there with much more focus and determination than woz did(perhaps all the attention and hype generated a let down?)....hit bigger and got a lot of free points off that serve.

not sure how i would feel about the final....if against venus,i'm not so sure, they have had some battles before but she may have a much stronger chance against clijsters as she beat kimmy at wimby. i actually hope vera can win it,either way.

I was shocked to hear that Vera beat Caroline's brilliant run. Out of the two I wouldn't really have cared too much who would go on to play in the final. But I really hope that Vera can deal with this final better than the last.

you know,i am just so proud of vera. having watched what she's gone through since the spring of 09,it's nothing short of magnificent. she's healthy again, she's regained her form and is probably playing better than she did in her best season,a year and a half prior to that horrible ankle injury. the great thing is that she's showing her best now in the majors.

:woot: Novak!

I gotta give it to both of them, what a match it was!

Ahhhh Novak you hero! :buzz:
So so happy about this final, I don't think it could be better for me, Rafa & Nole have great chemistry together so I hope they produce a classic final B)

I really hope it's going to be a good match and that Novak isn't going to be too tired, both physically and emotionally.

aww. Roger was so close to winning.:(

Sidenote: I spotted Anna! Right next to Mirka.
She didn't seem to want to have pictures taken though. Everytime the camera panned to her she kind of looked away.

And was it Gavin Rossdale sitting next to Mirka on the other side?

^yes it was gavin. he's always sitting in his box at the majors sometimes with gwen. ugh and anna always in roger's box. listen if she doesn't want to be noticed perhaps she shouldn't sit right where she would be noticed?? i mean, doesn't she realise the camera's always pan over the player's boxes throughout a match?

anyway, that was a thrilling match. worthy of the best of the tournament thus far. and congrats to nole for FINALLY overcoming the hurdle against roger at the open! can you believe that was the fourth straight year they faced each other at this event alone? and roger beat him in all those matches, which were pretty tight affairs in their own right. so good for nole. i just hope indeed he will have enough to bring to the final against rafa. he did indeed seem to expend a lot of physical and emotional energy out there.

^agreed. It was pretty amazing how he managed to turn it around in the last 10-15 minutes.

I think Anna didn't want to be seen because she was missing out on FNO duties:lol:

aw poor vera! i feel so bad that she was a bit overwhelmed by everything. she still tried so hard to find something and i'm very proud that she was still fighting. and still very happy for her, she's having such an incredible season! she'll move into the top 5 at 4 now(could have been 2 had she won)which will be her highest to date. so good for her.

and wow kim really brought her best out, non? nothing like the erratic play we've witnessed throughout the event.

but i loved what kim said, she had her share of disappointing finals before she was able to finally nab her first. i think if it happens for vera again,it will happen. now she'll truly be able to lean on her experience.

Yeah, felt bad for Vera too. Poor girl, she was just out of breath. Meanwhile Kim seemed like she could go on for about 4 more sets, lol. Still good for Vera for getting that far. Congrats to both of them.

Really happy for Novak. I just hope he can give serious competition to Nadal.

Kim was in top form! She truly deserved to win.
Although I do always have a soft spot for Vera. I almost cried with her at the end!

Kim's daughter is so cute!^_^

I just can't help but agree with this article:innocent:

NEW YORK -- There really aren't enough opportunities to use the word "hapless," which is why we all owe Kim Clijsters a debt of gratitude for pummeling hapless Vera Zvonareva on Saturday night to a 6-2, 6-1 mess for the U.S. Open women's title.

It was, in fact, the shortest final in recorded history, dating to 1980.

Still, the last 24 hours might leave a tennis fan with a sense that something is missing, such as the other half of a tennis match for their $173 ticket. Maybe a junior quarterfinal? Co-ed exhibition match? World TeamTennis warmup?

It wasn't just that Clijsters wrapped up the title so quickly, her adorable daughter was able to join her for the trophy presentation just before a toddler's summer bedtime. It was that the match was so lopsided, that there was no American favorite like Venus Williams, no heavy-hitting No. 1 like Caroline Wozniacki in the prime-time "final." At least let some lions into the arena when things get too slow; I understand that crowds have historically enjoyed that.

And face it, just a few hours earlier New Yorkers had the dream men's final ripped out from underneath the glass-flecked pavement. Rafael Nadal will play in his first U.S. Open final against ... Novak Djokovic? Any pure tennis fan can say that the Serbian earned the spot by the way he beat Roger Federer on Saturday. And any fan of pure comedy can say that his impersonation of Maria Sharapova is so dead on it's scary.

But the people wanted a Federer-Nadal final Sunday for the first time in Open history. Paris and London and Melbourne get to have one, why shouldn't the greatest city in the world? And if you think that's misstating it, perhaps you're right. New York is the greatest city in the universe. Including dark matter.

But the U.S. Open finals this year didn't come made to order. Perhaps we are just a bunch of spoiled Americans who can't understand the subtleties of the game so we are transfixed on the celebrity status of a player.

Wait, did I have you going with that one?

Hopefully, Djokovic will open with some impressions.

i was soo disappointed that Vera beat Wozniaki...but relieved to find out why
i knew the out come of todays finals, it was inevitable that kim was going to whip the floor with Vera

Djoki and Fed gave me a remarkable performance, i wanted Roger to win but Djokovic shocked me and the rest of that stadium and took the second set 6-1 now thats was when i knew theres going to be an upset..im just happy it went 5 sets, maybe Novak will me nice and tired for my Baby to destroy him in the finals(fingers Crossed)

Atleast we know the Mens Final wont be as abrupt as the womans final
