The Tennis Thread

i'm actually surprised at how well her ankle has held up throughout the last few rounds. you could tell early on she was a bit more cautious but somehow she managed to overcome that issue. i mean she could have went out to flavia too.

but this great for fran....i had always hoped that what she gives for fed cup would translate into her results on the tour and in the majors and finally it's happening for her. i've always been very fond of fran and she has the game to threaten players especially on clay and i think this fortnight she's threading that needle.

now whether she beats elena that's another story. i mean we all know how well lena tends to perform at these junctures of majors so i'm not sure. i really hope this will be lena's time to shine, finally. to be the only consistent veteran top player alongside justine, kim and serena & venus without a major....she deserves it.

see yah, roger! :clap::clap:
soderling is looking very much in it now.

Soderling did it! :clap:I see him in the final again.
He stopped Federer from reaching 24th consecutive final!

I agree, Elena does deserve a slam, I'll definitely be rooting for her. (unless she meets JJ in the final)

omg...! i don't really know what to say, i really dislike Soderling but I dislike Roger too  Considering the build up he had I guess it's not totally surprising he lost but then he has always raised his game for GS so I imagined he'd do the same here...well, now we know Robin plays Berdych :ermm:

omg rog! glad robin finally overcame him but never expected here. good for him. he's been playing stellar ball.

i don't dislike roger myself but it is kind of nice to see different players stepping up and not allowing themselves to be push-overs anymore. after six or seven years of pretty much dominating as a whole,it's kind of a refreshing change to see these other guys in the mix too.

how about sam stosur at the end of that match?! i was so frustrated when she got nervous serving for it in the second and suddenly,as usual, serena came back and started firing bigger serves. and that doubt lingered with sam. but then those last points came and serena herself looked nervous and a bit sluggish and suddenly sam found her range again....perhaps better than when she was in control. i'm glad she won,it would have been heartbreaking losing a match you pretty much controlled.

and i said it before, sam is probably my first favourite and now that it's down to the last four, lena is definitely my second. i'm kind of scared what sam might do with that kick serve against JJ on this surface.....and as confident as she is on top of that.....

they're saying the weather will probably be dry for the next couple days like today and i think that will benefit lena so much as the courts play faster and she can penetrate better with her shots.

I agree about Roger, I don't hate him, I just want to see him dominate less and other players being able to play well against him.

Sam was impressive today, I was fearing that Serena can make a break every time Sam was serving in the third, but then Sam did it instead. She really held her nerves there. Power and precision of her shots is unbelievable.
Out of four girls left she is my first pick to go to the finals. JJ will have to play MUCH better than she did today if she wants to beat her. I hope she can though.

The other semi will be tight. I'd love Elena to win, but Schiavone seems very strong at the moment. I can't predict that one.

I'm hoping that now Elena can give it that final big push and get the slam win that's been eluding her for so long.

I definitely see Stosur in the final and she will be tough to beat. Her big weakness up to now has been mental strength (particularly in closing out matches), but now she's defeated Justine and Serena she must be feeling ultra-confident.

How about Melzer over Nole? I just hope he can make it some sort of contest in the semis against Nadal.

^I hate you:lol:
Though I do hope Soderling would meet Nadal in the final!
I want Roger to keep his no.1 spot^_^
So sad to see Serena losing! 46 unforced errors?!!
But since she only lost to probably my second most favorite player Sam, I won't complain.

lena retired! :o i was not expecting that at all because it didn't appear to be too serious but obviously if she retired it was hurting that badly. lena rarely retires in matches let alone in grand slams.

I hope for a Soderling vs Nadal finale too!! I wanna see if Soderling is capable to beat him again! That would be a highly interesting match :bounce::bounce:!
contrary to some Nadal vs Berdych, in which case we all know who would win.
As for Rodg, someone said me he didn't play great since the beginning of the tournament...I saw his match agst Wawrinka, well he didn't play his greatest, but to say he wasn't in shape....
Soderling has truly deserved his victory.

The second semi was quick too. Sam seems unstoppable, even if Schiavone is playing her best tennis ever I don't see her beating Sam.
I do hope it's going to be longer and tighter match, to make up for the disappointing semis.

yeah it's all stosur's to lose now.i can't see her getting beat unless some rogue pigeon smacks her in the face or something.

So disappointing for Lena! -_-

Melzer was amazing yesterday, so tense in the final game and really great for him having never got this far at a GS and to have never won from 2 sets down. I'm looking forward to the semis tomorrow, everyone who is there is there because they've been the best in their drawer so I hope for some good entertaining matches ^_^

^ I agree.

I can see Melzer troubling Nadal, if he doesn't get overwhelmed by his accomplishment and the court.
Also, I don't think Soderling will have an easy job against Berdych. Tomas didn't drop a set so far.

JJ could not do much of anything with that kick serve of sam's. JJ just looked confused for the most part and i don't she could find any answers.

i agree, sam not winning the way she's playing will be an utter shock. i hope,as you ana, that it will be a bit more dramatic though. fran can actually give her some fight though because she stands a bit further behind the baseline and probably can handle her spin a bit better.
