well, first i gotta say i'm terribly impressed
it's so interesting seeing everyone's inspirations...
i'll start the judging then
ldvnicole an unusual concept
the colonial barn ghost!
i like that your moodboard is very straightforward, and cut into categories. and reading the fabric choices, i can see it would probably look quite good in real life (like using orange leather for the tunic). and it looks like your silhouettes were inspired by the centre image with the sort of hourglass figures. colours are similar, so that also unifies everything making it a collection
My only suggestion is to think more about a mood you want to convey with your colours. Your concept is a bit dark, but your colours are bright. The lavender-blue with the red and then very bright white.. it's a very strong contrast...
daniellat it was great that you created your own prints as well. did you design them? i was trying to figure out if you used any of the pictures in your moodboard to design the floral print.. looking for similarities in form, shape from the pictures you chose --particularly the army green dress doesn't connect exactly with the other two outfits in terms of colour/tone. the fuchsia you used i'm guessing is coming from the crochet flower. silhouette and texture are great. i do think it can be more unique if the reference to flowers wasn't too literal --you might like to add other inspiration images of "graphics" (like how you could draw the flower different ways... for example, a flower designed with crayon will look different to one done in watercolours). i can see you are going for simplicity
perfect10 also an interesting idea.. great how yours is kind of like a "narrative" and that it is based on a person. there is a real feeling in your colour and fabric choices, which goes well with that narrative story. the illustrations were excellent.. the only thing not clear in your board was the silhouette and details in the garments (for example, why you chose that loose draping and the "cape" with the fitted dress... but it does feel museum+art student). in that sense, the evening dress is such a stark contrast, in colour and shape, to the other two and doesn't exactly connect together as a collection.. they seem like two different persons/customers, but maybe that is just me. it's also good to have variety in a collection...
aaron95 it's great you have accessories with each of yours
the mood board connects completely with the outfits imo. the garment look (silhouette, details etc.) going together with the ocean shells, etc. it would be interesting to know if you had a "girl" in mind that you were designing for. the designs feel like it's for a very young person because of the bright colour and the mermaid design on the bag and water-waves on the bikini..
ilaughead a main aesthetic is not bad at all, so no worries
in fact that can be quite strong on its own and creates its own theme/designer signature. i only wish it had the colour to connect the design to the pictures better. it's curious you have architecture in the moodboard --the ridges sort of echo those straight bands for the collar connecting to the sleeves. i can see clearly the relation to the kimono with the batsleeves, and i like the contrast of the harsh geometric shoe next to the 'dropped' or drooping sleeves and looseness in the garments.
-------------------
so it took me some time to think of who could win
everyone has their own strengths in the designs, so it was hard.. The only thing I can suggest as a whole would be to consider a customer/client/person when you are designing, so that it directs what colours to choose and also the shape/details of the garment... Like for example, I can never wear bright red hammer pants
Plus to think of how fabrics and colours/textures/prints go together... Like say, a leather next to a chiffon is a very strong effect . And a purple next to a yellow is also very strong
You can also mix unrelated ideas together to make something innovative and interesting (ie. shapes from airplanes mixed with traditional german embroideries...)
Anyway the point of the challenge was to show a collected design that connects well to the moodboard. (a moodboard can be used anyway to sell your designs too, so it should be strong)
So, the winner is aaron95 !
colours clear, shapes clear, details/embellishment clear.. and also a sense of the 'main' customer who would buy those clothes...
