Thrift Scores

For those of you wondering about scoring nicer stuff, I find that the best stuff is often in smaller cities, small towns, and suburbs, NOT the biggest cities. In areas like the NYC metro area and Southern CA, stuff is picked over WAY too quickly by professionals from resale shops and vintage shops and people are much more likely to take nice stuff to the designer consignment stores like Encore. In smaller cities, there may not be as many consignment shops and there are less professionals.

I didn't know they were an international phenomena :woot: Do they wear Burberry checks just like ours do here? Sympathies with the lack of finding good stuff, and just keep hunting. You'll find something sooner or later.

I have always had good luck in LA. Then again, I know what and where to look for the right things.

But I typically have good luck in Vegas. I found a Moschino dress and a YSL men's trench the other day. I found some Sergio Rossi boots like a month ago, that I am sad I didnt get.

I usually don't post often but i just recently discovered this thread..i am a crazed thrifter and i have found sooo many great things from thrift stores. some of the better things I have found are
-salmon suede Manolo Blahniks pumps in my size that were totally unworn (nearly died when i saw these) for 2 dollars
-a pair of oliver peoples sunglasses for 1.50
-a pair of Marc jacobs flats for 3 dollars
-a wool satin Chanel blazer for 7 dollars
-vintage lv, chanel, o.de la renta, herrera scarves
-a vintage dior blazer (similar to the blue navy one a. olsen wears sometimes)
I have also found many vintage coats and bags that i love love love love to death..one being a gorgeous kelly style vintage bag made all from peacock feathers.I will post pictures soon sometimes.I live in California and there are countles of thriftstores around. I try to go to all the ones around me at least once a week. It's really about timing and luck..sometimes I leave with nothign and other times, tons of great things!

^^wow!! sounds like some great finds for great prices!!

What are the best places to shop for vintage in new york?

I have never, ever found any 'designer' pieces at thrift stores. I don't know if it's because I live in Washington (we're not known for having many luxury stores here) or just my bad luck, but the closest thing I've found to a 'designer' item was a Disneyland sweatshirt. ;)

I found a burberry trench for 30 bucks, with the lining and everything, it's lovely:)
