Thrift Scores

Hey can all the Brits help me!! Do we have thrift stores like this in the UK or is our equivalent a charity shop?

I've taken it to be a second hand shop, but not necessarily selling to make money for a charity if that makes sense (it's late here and I'm tipsy now!)

Actually I think most of our thrift stores are what people in the UK call a charity shop. Most of the thrift stores I go to benefit charities, such as Goodwill and Salvation Army. People donate their items, and they get sold and the money goes to these organizations.

Oh right, same set up as over here then. Our main ones are Oxfam, Bernardos, Marie Curie etc. Now I think about it properly, we've actually got nine of them within a mile radius of where I live.

yeah got shitloads in Edinburgh, gonna make a proper day of it and go round all of them! I think I prefer vintage shops slightly more tho

Yeah I live within walking distance of four really good thrift stores. I think personally I like thrift stores better because there's the thrill of the hunt versus in a vintage store where someone has already taken out all the wacky things:) I like looking at some of the funny things that I won't buy that I look at and think..someone bought this once...and someone is going to buy it again, why??

^ I went through and chose my favorites, being quite unoccupied.

Anyone may take them as suggestions; I think I have pretty awesome taste, so...

(I only went through about 1/3 of the items... There are tons.)

Well I have a few vintage finds. I am back in New York, and I want to go to more flea markets. I haven't really liked vintage stores here because they are just so expensive. And I also hate their selection most of the time. Flea markets are more my style, reminds me of Europe a little though not as good. Here are a few of my items.

Also is anyone else going to the Manhattan Vintage Clothing Show? I'm really excited. Prob won't have money to buy anything, but Shanghai in the 30s, say no more!

More vintage...from Beyond Retro, Apple Tree (I think..), and Rokit (London), Junction (DC), Flashbacks (San Diego), Hell's Kitchen Flea market, my Mom's stuff from the 70s.

I forgot my infamous cape; capes always end up at thrift/vintage places. I admit, I like mine, but its more for prancing around in front of a mirror than real outerwear.

I live in holland and we do have something like thrift stores I guess.
But you rarely find desinger clothes there, or I just don't look good enough.
Yesterday I went to a sort of flea market were all the profits would go to the church. I spend 5 euros, and bought:

-one sports bag with neon colours
-a small black belt
-very big pink shirt
-a with blouse with stripes
-a little scarf

Pretty much for 5 euros:)

anywhere i can get a suit/men suit for $200-300? skinny or oversized like this one:

I found these amazing YSL shoes for 6 euros from local second hand shop:

Just today I raided our local thrift stores and found the following:
- agnes b black cotton pants (perfect fit!)
- Yohji Yamamoto black long-sleeved sweater (the sleeves and the overall length are really long)
- Issey Miyake tee shirt

All for under $10!

dang! that's awesome:) ^

Lately I've been finding a lot of vintage beaded cardigans, which I sort of collect:)
I also found a lovely vintage grey cashmere cardigan that is just heavenly:)

picked up a sweet 1940's velvet bolero (big shoulder pads! score!!) a vintage 1970's gucci hobo, and some neat embroidered hippie tops
