Tips on Posing / Looking Your Best in Photos

I have this problem too - photos making me look different from real life. I always seem to look different in every photo I take.

You may being a tad paranoid though....we all tend to pick at our faults in photos when really we look fine.

Photos are dependent on several things:
Light
Your posture and position

What kind of expression do you have when you're taking a picture? Maybe you might wanna post a pic up? Everyone may just reassure you and say you do look fine!

you know since i really hate my photos, i dun even have one in my com, damn i do hate them so much whenever i see them i just wanna tear them up. but anyway, hey i really glad that you like to help. hey since you are from london and i live in uk, preton and liverpool, do you have idea about photography shop for people to take cool photos?

Models who don't have big lips make them look bigger by pouting and keeping their lips parted - so I guess you could do the opposite. :flower:

I used to always think I wasn't photogenic, and then I just started taking model tips. Elongate yourself, I always look straight at the camera (my best angle cause I have the worst profile), I always open my eyes a little more than usual (almond eyes). Take it from models, they're models for a reason!

any more model tips, you really like to share with us? diorl---------ing?

Unfortunately, I don't. There doesn't seem to be this trend to get your pictures done at a photographer's studio like there is in Hong Kong (I had some done a little while ago). Or there are those weird ppl who stop you in the street asking if you want a makeover (but really just want to rip you off for a set of photos).

You can always ask photography students at art colleges to see if they wanna take your photo.

really? what is your experience? my original home is 10 hours to hongkoing by train....do they help you to make up in the hk studio? what kind of experience?

Yeah, they can do your make-up and even pick out clothes for you to wear. You can choose whatever backgrounds or setting. It's not too expensive - got some done for $300 which is pretty cheap. I only did it coz a friend wanted to do it - the pics made me look a kinda 'fake'. But I guess some ppl like that?!

hmmm i hate photos of me - i just don't look like me in photos

however, the other day someone told me that i put on a fake smile in photos - that it isn't mine at all.....this baffled me yet i think it may just be true...uhhhh i don't know how im gonna fix this problem

Im not photogenic either and I hate taking pictures. One thing I have learnt though is just be be comfortable in front of the lens. If you're not yourself it shows so much and gives you a funny expression

^exactly... i'm so not photogenic either, but realizing that has helped me with pictures... i've let go some precious moments because of that insecurity, and i will not allow it anymore!

I used to dislike how I look in snapshots...until I noticed that people I considered utterly gorgeous in real life (and in some cases were professional models) sometimes looked even worse! It's not you...it's just the nature of the lighting etc.

However, it's best to experiment with angles, posture, mouth shapes and eyes, even hairstyles. You'll learn soon and find satisfaction. :flower:

everyone looks rank sometimes in pictures. i think its better to do look better in real life than you do in photos . . . .
i have a friend who says she sometimes looks better in her pictures than she does in real life . . . . .

i used to have a bit of a pose that i did, but i try and change it up now because it was a bit pretentious and kind of stupid looking the same in every single picture i owned!

i have a long face, so i kind of tilt my head to the side a little (my good side, everyone has one, right?). I usually did a sappy half-smile or semi-pout until i realised how stupid that looks (see Olsen twins). i hate 'too-posed' shots.

my boyfriend used to do this lips parted, sexy thing! i crack up when i see his old photos . . . .

unless you need to take great pictures (being a model etc) i think its good to know what works for your features (high cheekbones are always good), but then be somewhat 'natural'

it seems some of you have these kind of problems, but i wonder how come those model's ad photos are so gorgeous? do they have to do attach? i would be grateful if i can ever take a great photo in my life

but hey its true that if you act cute, the pic will show a werid person in your photo....so as long as be natural with it

yeah me too im totaly not photogenic. either i always have my eyes closed or i just look really bad! lol.. i dunno everytime it flashes i automatically blink and then my eyes are closed! lol... the bst pictures are the pictures where ur not aware that someones taking a picture of u cuz then u look most natural and dont pose!

this is a serious problem for me
i have a very small nose that.. for some reason.. looks BIG in photos
my chin looks pointy in photos as well .. i look very different:cry: it's unbelievable

this may sound weird but honestly when i point the mobile camera at the mirror and start taking photos.. they turn out really good..

I have the same problem. I'm like allergic to flash or something. I look completely different. one of my eyes are usually closed...or in the process of closing..so i usually end up looking like this - - >. I look normal in webcam pics or pictures taken without the flash. The sad thing is though, i have dark skin and I sometimes have to depend on the flash for my image to actually show up clearly.

My skin always looks so greasy in pictures and my spots look BRIGHT red... i think its just the quality of the camera

Yeah I got the same problem, I don't look good in photos. In person, however, is another story... ;)
