Tips on Posing / Looking Your Best in Photos

I had a same problem.. :flower:
What I did was,
I tried to act a pose.. and look straight to the lens.
It doesn't always work but I had few pictures that turned out to be quite good.
It's like, you're playing a role in class or something...
and confide in yourself!! ^_^

I have the same problem. I always start thiniking about how to pose and what to do and it only makes me uncomfortable and the photo turns out even worse. I really should stop doing that...

Yeah I got the same problem, I don't look good in photos. In person, however, is another story... ;)

cannot help but have to say that "so do i"

Yeah i like that attitude. Confidence is all that matters...you don't live in pictures, you're YOU! So if you go down the street like you walk and talk a million bucks then it will radiate naturally.

i used to hate myself in photos when i was younger.
i used to hate how i look when i was younger.
but now, i am bordering on narcissism.

:woot:

seriously,
you are what you tolerate and self-love
is the beginning,
the end,
and everything else in between.

:ninja:

man airboyair I wish I can meet you some day...seriously I'm not tryin to sound like a groupie, but you're just a groovy dude for real.

aw, thanks!
i wish i am as tall and as young as you.
i like your young mind too.

:flower:

you're in ny right?
i almost went to cloak show last night, would have met faust.
will meet soft at purechris' store next week, after valentine's.

so yeah, let's meet up. weeknights after work is best for me.

I'm actually not in NY or from there...I only stop there occasionally for holidays and sometimes before I go back/from home (Hong Kong)...I'm in Ann Arbor, Michigan during the school year.

Ah I look dreadful in photos. The weird thing is that I am with a modelling agency. I think my agent is blind when it comes to me. Everything looks so.... droopy in photos

yangyang- anyone can look really good in photo's-- you already have a leg up since you are good looking IRL!

i would try different things w/ makeup, hair, and wardrobe take alot of pictures-- even do it yourself w/ a digicam. when you try alot of looks, you will find the things that work on you, and then repeat tricks everytime you know there's going to be photos taken, and voila, you are very photogenic!

for sparkly eyes
try to line your upper lid w/ dark brown/black eye liquid liner to emphasize your eyes. then take a shimmery white or light pink eyeliner and line the inside corner of your eyes (i don't know any makeup artist that doesn't do this...) also take a brown eyeliner, lift your eyelid and line the inside of your lid underneath the lashes.

for thinner lips
get a very nude matte lip color- like shu uemura has some beigey-pinks. smiling is the opposite of pouting and so will make your lips look smaller

for smaller head/face
get a powder that is 1 or 2 shades darker than your natural skin tone. use your regular powder, then brush darker powder along edges of face. then take a bronzing powder (like smashbox flash) and bronze the T zone

if all else fails, learn photoshop.:flower:

I used to have the problem a few people have mentioned about always having eyes closed in pictures, then I started dating a photographer and he gave me a great tip - every time he was taking my picture, he warned me beforehand. Close your eyes, and as the photographer is pushing the shutter button OPEN your eyes - the photo will take before you can close your eyelids again. Also try opening your eyes really wide, that way if they close a bit it doesn't look like you are blinking in the picture!

I swear, I haven't had a bad photo taken since he gave me these tips!

I've been practicing taking pictures of myself b/c i'm planning on getting my headshot taken, but not until i figure out what to do in front of the camera. A family member and close friend both commented on how unnatural i look in photos. Now i feel even more jinxed b/c before i never worried about it & now i 'm the worst of the worst. I used to think that i was kinda pretty, but after seeing my self-timer pictures.. I've lost enormous confidence.

One thing that I noticed was that when i squinted ever-so-slightly, I looked the tiniest bit mysterious and sexy, just in the eyes. Another thing was that parting your lips apart won't look that good when you have a super thin upper lip... wish i had the kind of lips you described having yangyang. I even tried doing that thing that Adriana Lima does with her eyes.. the half opened look, but it's soooooo difficult! When i do that, i look like i'm on crack.

Hum ... the tip I got from a model is not to stare at the camera long before taking the picture ... ask the person to give you a signal when taking the pic ... look down and at the signal look at the camera .. it helps a lot ... as well ... you have to find out which lighting favors you as well as your best angle ... you'll notice that there are some artists and even models who take pics always doing the same pose!

You can never go wrong with a classic Elizabeth Taylor pose ... looking over one shoulder and pouting slightly ...

Spend time looking in the mirror and see which angle of your face you like best and work that when you are phtographed.

Also, the best photos are not the posed ones, but rather something taken while you are not looking and capturing a mood or a moment, those are the most beautiful and less contrived than posing because it is THE REAL YOU.

The more self conscious I am and the harder I try, the worse I look in photos. Almost all the pictures I like of myself are candids. I'm no lover of the flash either. I'm extremely fair and the flash makes me look pretty ghostly ... glowy, almost translucent.
