Toronto Street Style

^most designers fled to europe or the states. i agree on the logo thing.

i went into the aritzia on bloor once...i fled within 5 minutes. couldnt stand that place.
my school is one of those art schools, so the fashion scene in my school isnt that that bad...but it's still pretty tragic. fashion is the least of their concerns.
UHS, maybe?

unionville highschool? :o how did you know

i dont go to that school anymore though, i graduated

Hehe... well there aren't too many art schools here, so UHS came to mind. We must be pretty close then ;) expect that you're going to Saint Martins, lucky you!

MUXU - you are SO lucky to go to csm. good luck with everything. you'll get way more inspired living in london than anything toronto can offer.

also, i snooped on your myspace and your work is really wonderful. extremely talented.

i have cool style when i hit up t.o...can i post my pics? lol

^more than welcome...but i dont know if it's against the rules XD

 I went there too...

I also lived in London for a while, it's sooo much better than TO. I worked in the design lab at Selfridges, good inspiration.

I've recently noticed a huge surge in guys wearing (really) skinny jeans with high-top shoes in Toronto, probably thanks to stores like Urban Outfitters. It's almost getting to the point where a watered-down version of new rave is beginning to exist in Canada...

Anyone else noticed this?

I work north of Toronto and lots of guys trying on girl skinnies
I like it lol

I think I like it too, anything even vaguely British will liven things up around here...

I just truly don't understand why Canadians generally are behind in the fashion stakes. why why why? To be fair, I don't like Toronto, but as a big city surely it should not be that difficult to have access to style. The truly stylish people I see are few and far between.

^ You're not the only one. Most people I see here are dressed in a T-shirt, jeans/combat trousers and flip-flops/trainers. *Yawn* Boring.

I've recently moved to Toronto and I honestly see nothing stylish in the stores. Most of the clothes are very plain and either appear to be for teenagers or elderly people (especially when you're not an 'average' size). Looking in most store windows I see dull, dreary colours with a splash of one brighter colour in a corner. If there are patterns it looks to me like something nicked from a hippy's curtains. Many stores look like exact clones of each other, except the 'bright splash' changes colour from time to time... Then again, maybe it is because I am not right down town and am more on the outskirts.

The most stylish clothes I have seen so far are in the Asian malls and I also see a higher number of stylish people there. Not only are the clothes better-looking, but they are also more likely to have my size (often everything I take straight off the rack is in my exact size; not something I'm likely to find in the average Canadian store), I'm more likely to find something in the elegant feminine style I prefer and it's a lot cheaper! I would be out of my mind to pay more in order to buy the uglier, worser-fitting Canadian clothes.

I have found many more stylish clothes back in the UK and Europe and when my Dutch mum-in-law comes she cannot believe how sloppy, or old-fashioned and frumpy the clothes are here. She dresses so much better than most of the people she nearly always gets at least two or three compliments while she's here.

In addition to what I've seen, I also think that comfort trumps looking good for most Canadians. If an item of clothing looks as if it has the slightest chance of being uncomfortable, many wouldn't dare to touch it with a 10 foot barge pole.

^I just feel like the T.O. will never compare to Montreal. Everyone I know hates toronto, me included.

The freaks do indeed come out at night...
Lucky my eyes haven't come across those creatures. Yet.
