at least the sound of the rain hitting my roof is very calming.. helps me sleep.

The rain was horrible, I remember my umbrella not working, and I was walking all the way on 86th and Colombus, and had to grab a dirty umbrella from the dumpster to keep myself from catching a cold...

...I forgot to say, that Carnegie Deli is amazing!! the best turkey and brisquette sandwitch I have ever had...also Mustache was awesome...

I wanna move to NY now

thank u soo much to everybody for all the information about places to go in new york... im sure its gonna b real useful to me...
i hope i can return the favour sometime... wen u decide to visit london and i can spend time and sit here and type LOOOOAAADDDSSS of info just like you all did
i guess new york must b uneventful compared to london.... or maybe u new yorkers dont really know ur city that well... hmmm wat am i letting myself in for...

i don't understand...you want more?...just about every store in ny was mentioned...

if you want more nightlife...it's gonna be hard...as i've mentioned before...new yorkers don't go out clubbing...what you need is someone from new jersey or long island...that's who goes to clubs in manhattan on the weekends...and european tourists...

new yorkers go out for dinner or to friends places for parties...
or stay in...believe it or not?!?!?!...
if you want more restaurants i can give you plenty...

why dont u guys go out to clubs!!

where do u go if u wanna meet a new crowd of people?

I can tell you why I stopped going to clubs. I simply outgrew them, that's all. I will die before I'll stand another minute in front of a velvet rope with a bouncer pretending not to see them. The bouncers and the hosts, pretensious idiotic pricks getting off on whatever little power they have, well not at my expense. Even guest lists don't guarantee you'll get in without waiting on line. So, yea, I am too COOL to stand on line. There is nothing in those clubs that attracts me - I have much better time (like softie said) having a good conversation with friends over a drink in a place where I can here my voice and where noone pretends that they are coole then you, while desperately trying to cover up their insecurities. And once you get inside a club it's nothing but a crowded meat market, so where is the fun? A couple of weeks ago we threw a party at APT which is a very happening lounge/club. We made reservations well in advance so that was cool, relaxed night, without any wait. You should see how many other people were turned away at the door.

To answer your question about guys taking girls - on any happening night a host will simply not let a party in if there is more guys than girls, because they want to keep an even mount of people of both sexes. And think about it, you don't (well, maybe you do ;) , but I don't) want to walk in a club and see 10 guys for every girl, right?

Bergdorf Goodman (loving it)

also this restaurant called Allegria, they have great italian food and excellent service!

the club scene has changed dramatically since the 80's /early 90's...too many club owners were busted for tax evasion or drug trafficking...all the good clubs...avant garde clubs...closed and were taken over by prepsters and suburban types...

then in the late 90's the mayor started enforcing the cabaret licenses...meaning that there is no dancing allowed if you don;t have a special license, which is apparently difficult to get...so you'd go to a bar and get drunk but then you just had to stand still or sit there...

so then LOUNGES took over...if you're just going to stand around or sit...you may as well lounge and listen to loungey music...suddenly clubs closed and lounges were all the rage...which was cool for awhile but eventually got boring...

now it seems to me that private list parties at hotel bars is all the rage...getting on the list and dealing with an annoying door policy(as faust mentioned) is just degrading...we are mature and successful enough not to have to prove it by getting into a particular party... even once you get in...as faust says...it's just a bunch of posers and wannabes...the cool people are elswhere because they don't need to prove anything to anyone...

and now you can't even smoke in a bar or club...so why would i go somewhere to be overcharged for a weak drink...shoved and pushed around by strangers...listen to music i don't really like that is so loud i can't hear the person right next to me even if i'm shouting...and not even be able to smoke...?!?!?!?...

i'd rather have people over...play my own music...make my own drinks...dance and smoke if i feel like it and talk to my friends all night...when you have your own place...that's what you do!!!...

find out where ale went...maybe he's got a line on the younger crowd...

THAT IS SO REDICULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!

same apply's here about the waiting at the rope faust its insane
have you ever tried jumping the queue and walking straight in?
at china white they are SO pretentious they make you wait seriously FOREVER,
but if you walk straight up and just walk through they dont say a WORD.
the bouncer stopped me once and told me to queue and i looked at him paused for a second with the dirtiest expression i could manage and then proceeded in

in London its all about being on the guestlist.......doesnt matter if you're hot or not
but my friends in NY told me if you're hot the promoters will let u in right away
is that so?

Not here, try walking in, you'll be flying out

Yea, sometimes it's easy to get in if you are a hot girl.

hot girl means gisele bundchen or heidi klum in this city...just pretty won't do it...there's way too much competition... anyway...no one goes to clubs...except maybe britney spears and justin timberlake...

i hear the club scene is LA is kind of outrageous...so many young celebs with too much money and no restrictions...

what's your take on the highs and lows of living in nyc? I am in love with the place! What's it like living there?

Pros:

Diversity

Numerous cultural outlets: museums, art galleries, live music, dance etc.

Easy to get around: the subway and bus systems are great so often a car isn't necessary

Shops stay open late. (It's the city that never sleeps  )

Cons:

Ridiculous prices for rent

Noisy

Can be dirty (but that's improving)

Commuting to work can be a nightmare

High : The intensely fast pace some how reminds you that you're alive.

Low: Men are really aggressive here so bring a long overcoat if you're shy!

Lived here for just 1 month:

Highs: creativity, diversity, the design community, inspiration, the energy, the endless sense of opportunity, the art world, fashion centric, a forced cooperation while living, wondering what everyone's story is as they pass by

Lows: Everything costs more and everything is a bit more difficult to do (from renovation to smaller things like getting your things moved around town), can be lonely when you live on your own, did I mention $$$$

It really is fantastic. I'm an addict.
