Twilight

^ I hope that after seeing the movie, I can say something along the lines of... "I was wrong! Robert is amazing!"

Juno was lovely. ^_^ A very thoughtful, witty film.

This is about the novels rather than the film, but I've been starved of all thing Twilight lately

From Stephanies blog on myspace:

Happy holidays, everybody! I hope you are happy, healthy, surrounded by loved ones, warm, and done with your shopping. I'd love to run around giving all of you Porsches this year, but, since I can't, my gift to you is a peek at the Japanese illustrations from Eclipse, which are in my photos in a brand new folder. Enjoy!

My gift to myself is the best one I could have possibly given me! December 22st, at around 1:20 a.m., I finally finished the rough draft of Breaking Dawn. Hallelujah! It feels amazing to have that boulder-sized weight off my back. And now I get to relax and have fun on Christmas instead of writing all night like I have been doing up to this point.

Please, please don't read this and begin a slew of "If Breaking Dawn is done, why can't it come out NOW!" comments. I finished the ROUGH draft. Very, very rough. To put this in perspective, it took over two years from the rough draft stage of Twilight to the book being on store shelves. In general, I spend about a year to a year and a half editing a book. Don't cry, though, because both I and Little Brown's editorial staff are going to do everything in our power to get Breaking Dawn out Fall 2008. So, fingers crossed, it will be on time. Just don't ask for it to come out early because my head is already pretty close to exploding right now. (To get the rough draft done this week, I shattered a personal record by writing 40 (FORTY!!) pages in one day. That kind of thing takes a toll.)

Because I know you all love insider information, here are some stats on my other books as they compare to the length of Breaking Dawn*

* Remember, the BD numbers are based on the rough draft and will change in the editing process, but this will give you the general idea.

TWILIGHT
Pages on my computer: 475
Word count: 118,501
Pages in book form: 498

NEW MOON
Pages on my computer: 528
Word count: 132,807
Pages in book form: 563

ECLIPSE
Pages on my computer: 611
Word count: 147,930
Pages in book form: 629

BREAKING DAWN
Pages on my computer: 775!!
Word count: 192,196!!
Pages in book form: barring some kind of massive editing cut, I'm guestimating right around eight hundred pages!!

There you go, fun statistics from Stephenie's computer.

Once again, enjoy your holidays, everyone!

XOXO

^whoa. 40 pages..........

she's really not a good writer, but her plots are good. Eclipse was kinda baddd.

^ The writing style is pretty poor...it's very standard but yes, she has the plot etc right so I'll keep on reading (I found New Moon so difficult to get all the way through though)

^ Ditto on the writing style; it's very... generic teenager-like. (Even if I am a teenager myself.)

However, I think that her imagination and creation of characters and plots is great. ^_^

I just wish that she considered the feminist side of Bella sometimes, instead of creating someone who was so in love that she often forgot herself. With Shakespeare's Juliet, at least the girl still had a voice and knew who she was.

Without Edward, Bella is numb.
I'm beginning to question if that's a good thing or not.

Without Edward, I'm numb- I swear, if Edward is on hiatus like in New Moon or if Bella chooses Jacob (which I think she will), my heart will break.

And, I see what you mean about Bella being so consumed with Edward, but I think the fact that she is also in love with Jacob (damn her), shows that she isnt all about him and that she's growing more etc. But it's good that she is so into him, because he is this mythical, magical thing so her attraction and pull to him would be different to how it would be, say, for humans (like R & J)

i agree 100% with all of that!^_^

^ someone left a really stupid comment on there, 'Is the movie going straight to video or coming to theatres'....really!

Argh, why don't they cast the rest of the Cullens already? :hardhead::(

Btw, I think Susie Abromeit as Rosalie would be great! And I'd love Audrey Tautou as Alice, but she's probably too old and has an accent.

I think Audrey Tautou would be a good Alice but a bit too old? And I hate the idea of Rachel Leigh Cook , she's too old and theres something off about her face, whereas Alice would be beautiful & parisian-esque with perfect features. I'd rather someone like Camilla Belle

steven strait as jacob would be amazing. I never liked the Jacob character until I started imagining Steven Strait as him.

Twilight was a nice little novel. I read the series mainly for the character of Edward Cullen. It really bothers me too that Stephanie doesn't inject any feminism into the character of Bella. She seems as though she gets more vapid with every novel.

During New Moon and Eclipse, it bothered me that she kept hurting herself. It was the same thing over and over again, she hurt herself and Jacob/Edward came to her rescue. Why can't she save herself?

The reason I liked the character of Bella in Twilight was because she was so incredibly persistent. Although she found Edward to be an intimidating figure, she still stood up to him and demanded the truth. That was the reason why I kept reading the novels, for the dynamic between Bella and Edward.

Personally I think Stephanie pushed the Jacob plot a bit too much. I understand that he saved her when Edward left (I white-lighted it in case spoilers weren't allowed  ) but the same cycle over and over again got really boring and irritating.

White light -- >
When Bella kissed Jacob, I was ready to chuck the book out the window.

However, I kept pushing myself to finish New Moon and Eclipse because some of the Bella + Edward scenes really were gems in the rough (can you believe I just said that? )

I agree with Kissmesweet, Stephanie's writing is really generic but she's created a modern romantic superhero in Edward Cullen.

Who I shall now compare all boys to. Where is my lullaby? :p

^ When Bella kissed Jacob, I DID throw my book across the room & knocked down a few pictures but I was so...frustrated/annoyed. It was like she was weak and indecisive. As though there was no other way it could be, she couldn't love just one of them, it had to be both. I think the relationship between her & Jacob is/was completley different than that of Edward & Bella. Bella was so sure of where she stood with Jacob and what she felt and then it was changed dramatically, I think that was a major let down on Stephanies part.

I actually had no idea who Steven Strait was until I watched The Covenant (Holy crap 4 amazingly hot boys in one movie) and saw him. Then I was like whoa he's kinda cute and charming. If SS were cast i'd probably start shifting closer to the Bella/Jacob end considering I don't find RP attractive in the slightest.
