Two Tone Hair

thank you teenagexvanity! (and thanks again miniris :flower:)

You're more than welcome :flower:

Here is (finally!) an article about ombré hair from this month french Glamour. Hopefully, in a few weeks, our french hairdressers won't look at us as if we were extraterrestrials anymore!

Translation :

Impulsed by the fashion world (through Erin Wasson), the tie & dye look could be this summer's color.

What does it looks like?
Light ends, with dark roots. The more contrast, the more it rocks. Even if this trend looks "home-made", it is quite difficult to get. The best would be to ask a colorist. The difficulty would be to avoid the vanilla/chocolate effect, giving a patina to the hair, so the two colors get blended.

Is that for me?

Yes, if your natural hair is not too light. On thin hair, it looks good too because the ends looks like feathers. On thick or very straight hair, it's more complicated, because the difference between the light and the dark part is much more visible.

How to maintain it?
By spraying a lightener product on the ends. Light blonds can darken their roots as well. (Lightener spray
Go Blonder Sheer Blonde, John Frieda)

What hair cut for this new blond?

Very short hair (the blond is applied on the very ends only) - bobbed hairstyle - Soulder length with a light layered cut

Hope the English is comprehensible! ^_^

You should come to your hairdresser with the article Andrea.RL, that's exactly what I'm going to do next time. Even if it does not really explain anything, it might make more sense than our explanations. :D

I should go buy the magazine... :p thank you for telling (me) us! :D

Question: Do french women/clients just tend to not get their hair colored as much? Because it seems like a really simple process to have done, to me. Every stylist that I've asked knows exactly what I'm talking about. I guess pictures do help. The translation is excellent, by the way.

No, a lot of women get there hair colored here, and some people even go crazy with colors, like in any country (I remember this girl in my high school did pretty much the same thing as charlotte free a few years back, getting light blonde then bubble gum pink)

It's just for some reason this trend has not made it's way yet. But I think it's going to start, as miniris mentionned Daphne Burki has her hair done this way, and I've seen a few french articles about this. :)

Daphné Bürki is awesome! I never heard of her before I joined TFS.

Yes Daphne looks awesome, and she's really funny! She's a French Journalist for the TV Network Canal +, and she doesn't work that much abroad... I think that's why you hadn't heard of her before!

your colorist brushed it in?? It's really nice.
I started thinking about it last night... If mine does it through balayage/highlights there still will be some dark at the end no?
I went around the net to check out Technics, and some peole color a part of their lengths, then color it again but a few inches lower and that as many times as you want until you get a light enough blonde at the tips...?
Your thoughts? :)

well before, my hair was already a highlighted lightish golden blonde.. not quite as light as the ends are in that picture, but pretty light. so he lightened certain parts of the ends by brushing it in freehand where he felt necessary.. so there IS some contrast with darker blonde at the ends but not much and it blends pretty well since it was pretty light before!

About 2 pages back, I posted some blog entires on how to DIY two-tone hair color.

I referred to all three, and I thought I'd post the results. ^_^

The first photo is my hair straightened and curled.
The second is my hair air-dried.

I'm thinking that two-tone color can't be worn slick straight. It'd look too awkward. One would see all the layers and coloring. If it's curled or wavy, the color is sort of hiding.

here i thought this was a trend that started in france years ago, no?
Strange... I have always heard it has started in California! I had never seen this trend in France before.

Nahhh I believe this trend started around the recession time in the Land of 'Too Broke or Lazy to go the Hair Salon' or 'I Dyed it Myself and Messed up' Kingdom :shifty:

teenagexvanity & papa_levante: Love the subtlety of both of yours. It's really pretty.

Personally I like this trend subtle, not many people can pull off the dark brown to blond toned hair and not look ridiculous.

there was an article years ago about 'hair painting' in france....i'll have to see if i could dig it up. it was lightening the ends and hand painting upwards so it looked like more natural highlights than the ones sported by pop stars here...

^yeah I thought so too (about it coming from california, thought it was to re-create the sun lighting effect... :) )

So finally went to the hairdresser's. It's the first time he's tried this so I guess it's okay. ^_^
I'm just bumming because its more of a light brown then blonde. when he rinsed it out he said that it went blonder then what he wanted, that he was going for something more cooperish. I hate when hairdresser's take decision at my place... I mean why go cooper when I showed him exactly the blonde I wanted? Ok it's the first time, he didnt know what it would look like so he didnt want it to look un natural... Anyway, I guess next time I'll have to tell him I want it my way.

(just wondering, until then, if I want it to be a little lighter at the ends, would you advise me to just buy a highlighting kit and do little strands at the tips? Or would that look weird/turn orange-ish? (that's my main worry ^_^))
