Two Tone Hair

I love this girl's two tone hair (the whole look is actually pretty awesome)

My hairstylist did my hair like this almost 2 years ago. I wanted to go all blonde, she wouldn't let me, of course.. so she did this. She touches it up about twice a year, and I don't have to worry about roots. I like having this style, now I need to change up the cut :p

I love this thread! I've been thinking about doing the two tone look but haven't seen a lot of looks that I think would suit my Asian hair (I have straight black/dark brown hair with natural brown highlights if you flip my part). I'm not a fan of the Asian pop styles (bright oranges, reds) and blonde is probably too extreme for me as much as I LOVE the look on other people :(

so does Ombre hair require the balayage treatment? im trying to call salons to get some price points but im not sure what to ask for..

Yeah I feel like Balayage is probably the way to go.
Typically balayage doesn't go all the way to the root anyway.
Let me know what you find, I am in NYC and desperate for a new/good salon.

So I took the plunge today and got it done! I went to Shampoo Avenue B in the East Village, my stylist was Karuna (the owner of the salon). Now i didn't mention balayage, I just showed her a pic of what i wanted and she did it! It was a double process because I had red in my hair that needed to be stripped. I booked through Lifebooker so the total came to $90. I showed her a pic of Rumi Neely's hair, mine didnt turn out quite exactly the same because i have MUCH shorter hair, so my blonde starts at a higher point; but i love it! I'm going back tomorrow to get the Keratin treatment and a trim, so i'll post pics of what it looks like then! I would definitely recommend going to this salon, Karuna is such a sweetheart and knows what she's doing. Not to mention has a celebrity clientele of Gerard Butler, Chloe Sevigny, and Hilary Rhoda

Good to know! I was looking on Lifebooker last week, I can get my hair trimmed there for like, $30, via lifebooker. Thanks!

Chloe Sevigny and Hilary Rhoda both have great hair! Karuna sounds like a keeper.

Have any of you girls had it done in Sydney? I'm trying to find a good place to do it this week, but no luck :(

I'm also loving these 2 hair styles by Elle Macpherson and Alexa Chung:

i just got this done to my hair today! Its such a great new style..

I'm still hesitating... I love this look, but everytime i get my hair colored it goes a bit red intead of staying blonde (when i was blonde as a kid and still naturally have blonde highlights). I prefer this than getting all of my hair done, since its lower maintenance. At what point (length) can you get it done without having to absolutely go back and get it touched? (like just leaving it grow out)

Then again, i dont know if coloring would be the solution to my hair problems. I was also considering getting a perm, curly hair... But im not that would be the solution either. Im a hair mess! (you can follow my adventures on the style my hairthread, im pretty sure ive left crazy girl messages...)

Everyone and their mom has gone and gotten this done for spring here in NYC. I can't leave my house without seeing someone with ombre highlights.

My hair was like this naturally every winter as a kid... it used to get bleached slightly when I went on holiday (we always went to the mountains... powerful sun) and then it would grow out in the winter.
It always really annoyed me haha.

^ Haha, that's actually the case with my hair now. The roots are dark brown but towards the ends they're lighter because of the sun :/
some people can pull it off well, but in general im not big a fan.

Now that so many people have done it here, I am on the fence about it. I like it when it is the 'my hair is naturally this way' or if it is like 'oh I bleached my hair and then neglected my roots for two years a la Rumi Neely' but when I see people out, especially here, it's as though someone flipped a switch and everyone has 9 inches of roots. That's not an accident, it's so aggressively trendy in a 'this is only trendy to Fashion People' kind of way that I dislike, if that makes sense at all.

I got mine done a month or so back, it's a bit more subtle maybe? Crappy webcam photo alert!
