UK Harper's Bazaar January 2010 : Scarlett Johansson by Alexi Lubomirski

I got this today.
Inside is..
Scarlett by Alexi Lubomirski
Walk This Way: Marloes Horst by Guy Aroch
21st Century Heroines: DvF, Queen Rania of Jordan, Zainab Salbi, Natalia Vodianova, Lisa MacCallum, Sarah Brown and Naomi Campbell (1 photo each) and more in the article.
Charlotte's Web: Charlotte Rampling by Sofia and Mauro
Time for Action: Janeta Samp by Yu Tsai (health article)

Only 1 real fashion editorial but it seems to be a good issue, despite my hatred of Scarlett.

^Thanks so much for the review, McQueezy, I really can't wait to get this :woot: And Queen Rania is

Great to see that Marloes has an ed. Thanks for the review.

Its not a bad issue overall for January, here's the newstand cover and I'll try and scan in Marloes' ed later on.

Thanks for the scans, vogue28 and fearless123 :flower:
the cover actually looks better with text

I actually for a moment thought I'd prefer the newsstands cover over the subscriber's one, judging by the thumbnails, but seeing the subscriber's cover in full-res changed my mind again. I really don't like what Scarlett's wearing here, but the make-up is spectacular, very complementing on her. The lip color is amazing. The more I see and hear of this issue, the more I want to have it. Thanks for the scans, vogue28 and fearless123! Can't wait to see the Marloes/Aroch () ed! :flower:

On another note, why on Earth is "Scarlett Johansson interviewed by Bono"?? Did I miss something?

Scarlett's part of the (RED) intiative, set up by Bono. She's been a sort of face for it from the start.

All I think of when I see the cover image is this photo of Kate Moss:

I received my copy today... they used the same shot for the subscribers' cover... it says SJ interviews by Bono... that's it... the issue is quite boring to be honest... it is not bad but there's Natalia Vodianova's beeeeeutiful picture... quite nice to read about Charlotte Rampling...

The concept of an interview on RED by Bono did not appeal, so I proceeded directly to the Charlotte Rampling piece, and I was surprised to see that it was by Simon Schama - if that's really the historian writing for Harper's Bazaar, no wonder it was a decent interview. Given that he writes books where he constructs a compelling narrative from limited facts, Charlotte could have said six words in that interview situation and we'd still have got a good read out of it.

But Simon Schama? Surely the writer must be some journalist who just happens to share the name, because now I'm getting a vision that when he stops talking about Henry VIII on TV, he goes home and puts on lipstick and a pair of heels.

It IS Simon Schama the historian. You are right. And I thought it was a really interesting interview too. Loved the layout of the first spread too!

^^ aah! :woot:

I love having historians/philosophers/writers (ie. non journalists) get published in less academic or unexpected places. They really add so much, and its a really pleasant suprise. The quality of writing jumps by a million too.

I hate Scarlett Johansson so much but I must admit that she looks stunning on the cover. ;) Though I prefer the subscriber's cover more. Thanks vogue28 & fearless123 for scanning both covers! :flower:
