US Men's Vogue

News

from businesswire.com:

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 5, 2005--Conde Nast Publications will launch Men's Vogue in April 2006 with a special spring issue, it was announced today by Charles H. Townsend, President and C.E.O. of Conde Nast Publications. The magazine will start publishing bi-monthly in fall 2006 and will increase its frequency to ten times a year in 2007. Jay Fielden has been named Editor-in-Chief, with Anna Wintour as Editorial Director. Thomas A. Florio has been named Publishing Director of Men's Vogue, in addition to his position as Vice President and Publisher of Vogue. Men's Vogue will launch with a cover price of $4.95 and rate base of 300,000.
"The first issue of Men's Vogue was met with an overwhelming response by both readers and advertisers, and we believe there is a marketplace to be captured for a new sophisticated men's magazine," Townsend said. "Like Vogue, Men's Vogue will attract an audience far beyond fashion covering fine arts, literature, and culture."

The fall 2005 issue of Men's Vogue is estimated to sell 150,000 copies on the newsstand and contained 164 advertising pages.

Conde Nast Publications, currently publishes twenty-eight magazines. The company includes, Fairchild Publications, Golf Digest Publications, Conde Nast Business Group, Conde Nast Media Group, CondeNet, and The Shared Services Centers.

Any questions about Men's Vogue's future have evaporated. Condé Nast Publications, parent of WWD, on Wednesday promoted the new men's fashion title from test to full-fledged launch. Men's Vogue will publish three times next year — in April, September and November — on its way to appearing 10 times in 2007. The rate base will be 300,000.

The current issue of Men's Vogue is projected to sell at least 150,000 copies on the newsstand, according to Tom Florio, vice president and publisher of Vogue. "That was really the final test because we knew it did extremely well with the advertisers," he said. (For comparison, GQ sells about 215,000 copies per issue on the newsstand, Esquire about 108,000.) Florio will be the new title's publishing director, overseeing a publisher, who is expected to be named within the next week. Florio said the new publisher will come from within Condé Nast (but it won't be current Gourmet publisher Giulio Capua, despite recent speculation to that effect).

Jay Fielden, who has been officially installed as editor in chief, said he will continue to work closely with Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour, Men's Vogue's editorial director. "It's important for me personally that she's there to consult with," he said. "Maybe now she won't be around the corner, but she'll be just a floor or an elevator ride away."

But Wintour may have less time for Fielden if, as expected, work begins in earnest on a shelter-based spinoff, likely to be called Vogue Living. Florio confirmed it's "something we'd like to do this year," but added, "We're going to finish what we started with Men's Vogue before we start to talk about Vogue Living."

I was very disappointed in the premier issue of Men's Vogue. I mean come on....George Clooney for the first ever cover.

Im eager to see the next issue. Ive heard rumors its only going to be quarterly until the amount of subscribers picks up.

Anyone have a word on when the next issue will hit stands??

should be about late March as it's a bi-annual mag.

I heard that this first year the issues are few and far between, until readership and subscriptions pick up...but bi-annual????

Thanks for the tip, I will have to keep my eye out for the next one...hope it's better than the first.
