US Vogue October 2015 : Lupita Nyong'o by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott

This magazine needs help. The print issues just feel so out of touch, in a certain way, at this point. It doesn't seem to exist in any kind of reality - at least one that feels current. The kind of fantasy, aspirational, big-gown type of editorial feel old.

Oddly enough, though, Vogue.com has consistently been putting content that feels new, fresh, and on the pulse. Why doesn't this content make it into the magazine?
This Grunge online-editorial and video are so fantastic! Would love to see this as is on the pages of the magazine. Great styling, great new models, youthful, creative...

I'm baffled by the choice of background color, but what a GORGEOUS dress and editorial. Would've made a much better September issue than Beyonce's IMO, but of course that wasn't going to happen...

GRUNGE ONLINE EDITORIAL

Completely agree with the bold.

And wow, I too would have loved to see that grunge editorial both in the magazine, and on the cover. Enough of this WASPy Vogue sh*t, it's not modern.

Why are Vogue covers featuring black women always so heavy handed?

She has a role in the newest Star Wars movie.

And the Jungle Book and she'll be in Americanah.

I like that she didn't overexpose herself after her Oscar win. It's nice to miss her and anticipate her next movie.

That video of Lupita is the cutest thing. She speaks so eloquently and so fluently in her alternate languages. Love, love, love!

The post-production on these photos is definitely horrendous, but Lupita and the images themselves look gorgeous.

Is there something wrong with her purse hand/fingers?

I love this and love Lupita! That shot of her in the blue dress... I am so happy for her success, and I want more films from her. I really hope Americanah is made soon, I loved that book. This cover is 100x more striking than the Beyonce September cover, IMO.

I must be missing something because I find the cover and the editorial really boring.

Photographer: Annie Leibovitz
Stylist: Tonne Goodman
Stars: Eddie Redmayne & Alicia Vikander

awesome cover and ed! Her skin glows despite the extreme photoshop. She photographs like a model and is always given the best US vogue stories. imagine if the black and white profie shot was the cover with a metallic masthead

the editorial is spectacular!

i also love the cover image, but agree with everyone else here that the background is really dragging it down.

there's just something about Lupita. she has this inner radiance - physically, yes, but i'm talking about her aura - that just shines so very bright. she's a STAR.
