gwen looks like a doll, but the dress looks cheap for some reason....kind of like polyester

also, I agree about the whole celebs on the cover of VOGUE US. I HATE IT!!!! I think only models should be on the covers of fashion magazines, but that is another topic.... :ninja:
unfortunately for us, the era of the model is over.

models are no longer the publicity meter for glamour... and actresses have now taken it upon themselves to dress up and talk about clothing.

remember when in the 90's there was the trend where celebrities didn't care?

now?

models are out, and actresses are in.

pop culture is HUGE... and celebrity culture has taken over everything in terms of the media... it is all anyone cares about.

even the designers are flocking to all the a-list actors in an attempt to have their clothing be worn by them. it is all about sales, marketing, and money. and if the models aren't bringing in the top dollar, why should the companies use them? [i know, i know! ]

and that is what is happening with fashion.

the celebrities sell. models don't.

no one cares about the inner secrets of a model's life. but jennifer aniston? everyone wants to know about her breakfast habits and her runs with brad. [/b][/quote]
well said.

and as for all the "silly words" on the cover, i think it is because the US isn't as fashion forward as UK, France, or Italy so the magazines need something else to attract readers. like weightloss, for example. (just my own thesis  )

no need to blush, you're exactly right. we need the SENSATIONAL and OUTRAGEOUS to have any interest. i work in retail, and those vogue magazines are situated RIGHT NEXT TO "the globe" "star" "enquirer" and "world wide news" etc. now *those* magazines command attention. i hardly ever see anyone buy vogue T_T. and we americans watch too much damn tv and obsess about hollywood (case in point, the "e" channel which is 24/7 all about celebrities). fashion is seeing a celebrity wearing something on the screen. the breed of us who are interested in fashion as the history/creative process of clothing are a rarer breed.

who is jean yu?...

Vogue Scoop:
Stefani gives an unknown cover status

Monday, March 29, 2004

Vogue credit-watchers got a surprise for the April issue, as the frock Gwen Stefani donned on the cover was not by any Tom, Vera, or Alexander, but a little-known designer named Jean Yu. “People I’ve talked have expressed their surprise that it wasn’t the typical Oscar or Prada,” Yu said. “But honestly, I am more surprised that their decision hasn’t gotten them more press.” Yu, a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology who answers her studio’s own phones, was obviously extremely thrilled by the editorial coverage, though she did admit she probably would’ve preferred a different cover pose. “I think she looks fantastic in the dress,” Yu said. “But I can’t decide if I think she looks fantastic in that dress on the cover in that pose.”

What was Yu’s secret to getting on a Vogue cover before Behnaz and Proenza Schouler?  It was all Gwen.  “Gwen’s been a huge fan of ours for quite awhile now,” Yu said. “She specifically requested my designs for her photo shoot.”

http://www.newyorkmetro.com/shopping/artic...s/gallery/7.htm

I first heard about Jean Yu in a W article last year (I think). She makes the most expensive underwear in SoHo apparently because she needed something to match her great dresses.

The coolest thing is the name of her store, called 3 + 7 = 1 which makes sense in numerology.

I'll track down the article.

oohhh...that's her?...i know that store... i thought it was just lingerie...the stuff is sooo delicate...

thx ateleir...i'd love to read the w article if you can find it... :flower:

It's in the November 2003 issue. Here's the article in two parts if you don't have your mag anymore or don't want to go to the library. I hope you can read it!

And I got it wrong, her store is called 37=1.

thanks atelier...she is very cute... :flower:
and i like that dress next to her....

37=1 > 3+7=10 > 1+0=1 > 37=1

As I have nothing else to point in this celebrities-take-fashion affair, I thought it would be fun to post this. It's silly, I know, I know... :glare:

she looks great...
I dont get why they chose that dress for the cover. she looks like her leg should be locked to a ball and chain.

shes timeless :woot:
absolutely stunning

i liked the first 5 the best
esp. the 3rd one!

umm...which ones the cover? or is she even?
