US Vogue January 2009 : Anne Hathaway by Mario Testino

REVIEW:

Magical Realism

Ph. David Sims
Fashion Editor: Grace Coddington
Models: Chanel Iman & Jourdan Dunn
Hair: Guido
Makeup: Diane Kendall

Sims studio edit but Chanel and Jourdan set the pages on fire. Love it. :buzz:

Supermom
Ph. Mario Testino
Fashion Editor: Grace Coddington
Models: Carolyn Murphy & David Gandy
Hair: Oribe
Makeup: Linda Cantello

Carolyn as Lois and David as Supes. Cute.

Seeing Red
Ph. Patrick Demarchelier
Fashion Editor: Phyllis Posnick
Model: Coco Rocha
Hair: Didier Malige
Makeup: Gucci Westman

The now infamous Coco red hair story - only 1 large picture and two small ones. Still dynamic and oh so Coco.

The Match Game
Ph. Raymond Meier
Fashion Editor: Lawren Howell
Model: Ali Stephens
Hair: Peter Gray
Makeup: Lisa Houghton

Accessories edit but I'm just so happy to see Ali in Vogue.

thanks for the review Luxx you are the messiah sent from Xenu

It could be so much worse.

Translation from English to US Vogue: Pretty solid cover.

Seriously though, I do like the cover. Color wise it's very warm, rich and natural looking. And while her smile looks about as natural as The Joker's, her eyes look beautiful in the HQ shot.

usually when the covers are bad, the editorials are gorgeous (SJP May 08 anyone?). this'll be my first subscription to Vogue, and if "change" really is gonna happen, I now have a front row seat. lol

thank you for the review luxx, you are the grandest

I quite like the cover myself

thanks for review as always, Luxx!

which new ad campaigns are feauture in this issue?

Thanks for the review!
Can't wait to see Chanel and Jourdan's ed!:woot:

Hathaway's no doubt pretty, but she smiles like a clown here

I don't care much for the cover or the contents but based on the previous year - I'd say this was a good start.
Anne Hathaway is a refreshing cover choice and I quite enjoy her as an actress and a vibrant personality.

But again, the content sounds BORING. A Sims editorial styled by Grace Coddington can only bring disappointment.

What's more - give Anna the opportunity to have a location shoot and it suddenly turns into this pastiche of comic characters and kitsch 'themed shoots'. The women are cliche characters like Juliet and Lois Lane and other symbols of female oppression.

Vogue tries way too hard with these 'creative' endeavors and it ends up seeming a bit pretentious really.

Thanks for the review, Luxx, I'm very excited to see Jourdan and Chanel's editorial :buzz:!

And the cover looks MILES better with the text edited out.

Luxx I just looove your less cluttered cover, much better than the original! Maybe Anna's job should go to you, lol!!! All of the comments about the cover have been so poignant and hysterical! I really can only echo the sentiments! I can't wait for Jourdan and Chanel's ed!

Love the retro vibe on the cover though Anne looks kinda ridiculous smiling.
Thanks, Luxx.

I truly love this cover: beautiful Anne Hathaway looks gorgeous and for once it isn't cluttered with text. And the editorials are quite surprising, too. Only Coco, of the usual girls. Can't wait for Chanel and Jourdan! And really glad to see Ali Stephens here. Thanks a million for the cover scan and the review, Luxx.

Like the cover, the eds quite interesting, thank you for cover's scan.

I like Anne though the cover is kinda cheesey for me but want to see her ed, and very excited to see Chanel and Jourdan together, and the other fashion spreads for spring.

I dislike Anne's smile on the cover :ninja:
I'm pleased they are cutting down on the text.. I like the centered text..
thanks for the scan and review Luxx
