US Vogue March 2007 : Jennifer Hudson by Annie Leibovitz

NEXT STOP FOR JENNIFER HUDSON - VOGUE: Magazine’s resident diva, Andre Leon Talley, dispatched to work with budding superstar.

*According to reports, “Dreamgirls” standout Jennifer Hudson appears to be headed for the pages of Vogue magazine.

Gossip columnist Liz Smith said J-Hud recently completed the photo shoot with Vogue editor-at-large Andre Leon Talley, himself, overseeing the entire session. Smith said original Supreme Mary Wilson was also part of Hudson’s photo spread, and the two met for the first time during the shoot.
Word has it that Hudson’s camp called on the fashion expertise of Talley soon after she was announced as a Golden Globe nominee.

“To wind up Mary signed a copy of her own book "Dreamgirl and Supreme Faith: My Life as a Supreme" to the enthusiastic talented Oscar-hopeful Jennifer,” Liz wrote in her column for Tuesday. http://eurweb.com/story/eur30874.cfm

i was so hoping for a model on the cover this month. *sigh*

A black woman hasn't been on the cover of the March issue of Vogue since Sheila Johnson in 1980.

ebay

Normally I would go for a model but I don't care! I'm so buying this issue.

I was just thinking and i cant remember what did Oprahs spread look like.Did anyone see it or possible have scans of her Vogue edit?

US Vogue probably won't have a model on the cover ever again unless they are a super. People can't seem to deal with that.

^ I don't know but Anna made her drop down to 150 lbs before she would allow her to set for the shoot.

She said the idea of being on the cover of Vogue was "fascinating" especially after spending her youth being called "coloured", "ugly" and "buckwheat".
"If you want to be on the cover of Vogue and Anna Wintour says you have to be down top 150lbs - that's what you gotta do. "I didn't think for one moment 'Now I am going to be a Vogue model' nor even did I think I could hold that weight."

That is ridiculous!

This is really big (no pun intended). I know Jennifer is the most talked about celeb out there right now but I suspect there is much more to Vogue's motivation behind this cover choice than just her spotlight status (i.e. weight controversy, lack of non-white celebs, etc.).

Whatever the reason, I, for one, am quite pleased.^_^

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know Jennifer is 'the star of the moment', but she doesn't deserve the cover yet. All the other actresses have already 'established' themselves. WTH is vogue thinking? Just because someone is in line to win an Oscar doesn't automatically qualify them for a Vogue cover.

Sure it does! This is Vogue US we're talking about here

Anyway...Best news I've heard all week

i wish it was thandie newton instead of course, but thats not happening

I don't think this is a good idea at all. In fact - its a TERRIBLE idea:angry::sick::angry: .

It's not because shes African-American or because shes fat - its because shes not 'high fashion'. Vogue is about HIGH FASHION. Jennifer Hudson is NOT high fashion.

Anna is loosing her mind. This is possibly the worst idea to come out of Vogue yet! And if they use Caroline Trentini one more time - I swear I will have a mental breakdown:lol: :innocent: !

Did hell freeze over?

I am happy for Jennifer, but this seems like such a change from Anna Wintour. She didn't seem to want anyone who is not model skinny on the cover.

I see your point, but most of the actresses that have been profiled on the cover of Vogue are not exactly high fashion either, just puppets of their stylists... But just like Ellen on the cover of W, she is an odd choice to be on the cover considering the mainstream of boring/dull celebs. I would have prefered a model but I am happy to see Jennifer on the cover. Good for her - she deserves it.

I also hope there is not a mind numbing studio editorial involving Caroline T.

do you guys ever think that Anna Wintour is kind of racist? I know there are black models, Asian models, etc., and I know that Anna tends to repeat models again and again and again...but it's always Liya in there, plus a bevy of Caucasian models. Like, every once in a while she'll throw in an Oluchi or a Lilliane Ferrarezi, but otherwise the magazine is filled with with white chicks. I do love Caroline Trentini and Isabeli (or does she count as Hispanic, being Brazilian), but it seems so...narrow.

It took J.Lo a while to get on the cover...and considering how fast Kirsten Dunst landed on it, plus other random Hollywood starlets too insignificant to remember, that really does say something. J.Lo, however tacky you might think her, had a big influence on fashion in a way (that Versace dress, sweat suits:innocent: ), and was much more famous than a lot of the girls on Vogue.

I stopped following American Vogue because it became repetitive after a few years, but this is one of the things I've noticed.

I like the choice, if the rumours are true.
