There's been a lot of argument in this thread about TOP models vs SUPER models. I do get the distinction. But please keep in mind: Gisele's name is practically a household word, known to both school kids and grandmas. And Gisele earned 17.5 million dollars last year - the highest paid model world. Outside of the insular world of Fashion, who kowns who Gemma is (or Sasha or Jessica or Inguna or Natasha or .... take your pick!)? And what kind of money did they make? Whatever it was, I'm sure they'd love to push it up into the Gisele range. And lets get real. They all aspire to be another Gisele! They're not like some tremendously talented jazz or classical musicians - in it for the art and wanting to avoiding the mass mob media generated appeal of a rock star. And how long can they expect to model: 10 years, at best? At least the SUPERS, with name appeal, could maybe parley their modelling careers into 2nd or 3rd rate acting careers. What can a TOP hope for?
P.S.: I'm really & truly glad they put models on the cover - for a change. I'm sure we won't be seeing any models on the cover of US VOGUE (or ELLE, or BAZAAR or GLAMOUR or COSMO, etc.) for another year. It'll just be 12 more months of Angelina, Reese, Gwyneth, Renee...all the usual suspects.
