V #56 November/December 2008 : Beyonce by Bruce Weber

I don't see why everyone was going crazy over it. It isn't that amazing IMO. It's okay.

Meisel is provoking again... and it's working. He's pushing our buttons... testing the boundaries of fashion isn't just about fashion... and people are responding... just as they did to the Vogue Italia September 2007 Make Love Not War editorial. IMO it is his right as an artist to do so & whether you agree with him or not... he's not just provoking for the sake of provocation... because you only respond strongly to provocation if there's something to it.

In all honesty the Meisel editorial disappointed. And that is coming from a major Meisel fan.

The references aren't subtle enough. And, I thought 'dogging' was done in public places. Not in an abandoned forrest?! :innocent:

But whats most disappointing is that both Anna S and Daul Kim only got one shot each, respectively.

Well the ed did disappoint, not because it's bad, but because of higher expectations, I taught it would be much more sexual...but this looks like cool kids having fun...

I like it though, darkness and colors...

tbh I think the Meisel ad is amazing. I don't think it is as provocative as it was made out to be, but i still love it.

I am not shocked in any way (I find it stranged that VI judged that editorial too sexy to publish it... Are we sure this is the real reason?) but I really like the ed!

Unless Franca says something... and most likely she won't... I doubt we'll every know.

I'm a bit surprised too that VI didn't publish it... because Franca is all about Fashion isn't just about Fashion... that's her mantra so to speak.

i love this.. the visual manipulations and the content go together seamlessly. it's a must have.

i think it's just ridiculous that vogue italia dropped the dogging editorial because it was "too sexy". yes is was very suggestive, but i don't think it looks bad enough to cancel.

i really like the editorial, especially the multi-image pages that have pictures of the sky. it's unfortunate that the theme and controversy seems to takes away from the actual editorial.

I'm not even sure if I want to finish the slideshow as it seems to be about a bunch of women in various reclining positions while men leer over them. The colour palette and visual effects are interesting but I can't really get past that issue. All the ones I prefer involve only one model because there isn't that ridiculously outdated dynamic. (Even p*rno has gone beyond that these days.) I reaaaaally want to like it (it doesn't look so Stupid Spoiled W**** video playset afterall ) but....

And how is this particularly racy ? I haven't read Vogue Italia for a particularly long time...perhaps it doesn't normally publish this sort of thing.

i think the dogging ed is nice but disappointing. not because there are "too much clothes" or anything like that because it's a fashion ed and the purpose is to show the clothes in some way, and a lot of nudity wouldn't make it racier... but i think that, trying not to make it too provocative or racy, and not too subtle either, meisel didn't find the right balance (please this is not like i'm trying to say to steven meisel what's right or wrong:rolleyes:) and it ended up being just "nice". the images are certainly more tasteful than the ones in his eva mendes ed though. one day i'll understand why VI accepted to publish that ed...:yuk:

I think the real reason is it isn't very Vogue Italia. It's more indy fashion magazine.

Disappointing. It feels very cold and numb - probably the retouching. There's no sense of excitement.

helmut.newton that's what I thought....they should have been in a car park or something

the Meisel editorial is very strange
I love the idea of coldness for such a theme for sure, though at the end it doesn't give me much feeling

I'm not liking the cover. Horrible angle which makes both her face and arms look bigger than what they really are.
