V Magazine #118 Spring 2019 : Lady Gaga by Jean-Paul Goude

This cover is so ugly that gives me nauseas besides she is not an enigma, she is one of the most predictable pop stars around. This aesthetic is ANTP blended with Ru Paul's Drag Race. Born to be Cheap.

I really dislike the covers and I'm not a Gaga fan, I find her overhyped, not intriguing and not that talented; she's nowhere near the level of Madonna.

Ga Ga could only make this magazine more tiring.

Well kudos to them for timing the release of the cover the very week Gaga has the number one single and album in the country.

No idea why this gets so much hate.

Generally speaking, I don't know what people expect from print magazines these days - after all, they're glorified catalogues for overpriced goods and overhyped people, that occasionally turn commerce into art, but that's not really the main requirement underwriting their existence.

People complain "it's all been done before - they should be doing it better" - but it's a bit like expecting an athlete in middle age to break their own records from decades ago. It's a dying industry. Nobody's looking to surpass themselves, they're just seeking to stay alive.

A very coherent and well-written though! Thank you, I absolutely agree. However, I tend to think that people look at magazines as consumed fast-food art, but the times of exclusivity are gone and now it is all commerce with very minor exceptions (e.g. Visionaire).

I love this! V covers have been dull for a while and although it's nothing new for them to feature Gaga, I think the end result is fantastic. They're one of few magazines who can get away with more avant-garde cover shots, probably due to their logo and layout.

I love seeing something more fashion-y and "crazy" from Gaga again, it's been a while since she's come to play like this. She and Goude are a perfect match in my opinion, it's strange how little they've collaborated over the years, I think this is only the second time?

Lady gaga 2010 era is back?

Instead of the very catalogue imagery from magazines, I am happy to enjoy some crazy editorial by Goude. So yes to that.

^Ditto. We've been so overwhelmed by sterile, passionless imagery, that the sight of kooky, couture-clad Gaga back on her 2009 shtick is more than welcome. Excited for the whole shoot.
