Valentino Spring/Summer 2005 Couture

Not Valentino's best but still pretty good when compared to others (Chanel, Lacrioux  ). Ruffles and colors dominate the shows and Valentino does it better than others. Some of his theatrical stuff won't wear well, but I can imagine them looking memorable in pictures. That beats not wearing well and not making good photographs.

Nice hair, too.

This last one reminds me of Uma Thurman's Golden Globe gown (it was a Dior).

very valentino...

I agree as well. I looOOOOoooove this collection! It's a little old school, but that's part of its charm - in the end, it's beautiful clothes that can come directly off the runway and be worn. I love the showmanship at Lacroix and Dior, but this is real clothing. I saw the entire collection on style.com, and it just built beautifully fromlook to look. Style.com lavished praise on it as well.

By contrast, I was aghast at Armani Privé. Even the 'review' on style.com was little more than factoids about the collection, saying nothing positive nor negative about it, which leads me to believe they were skirting around the issue of whether or not they liked it.

Though I like it as I said before, the more I look at it, the more I see stuff I've seen before at Versace, Chanel, Dior and Vuitton
it's timeless ageless elegance...it's style that transcends trends...it's looks that have been interpreted and re-interpteted forever...and always will be...and will be again and again...

these are the kinds of pieces you pull out of your closet 10 years from now and they are still exquisitely immaculate and perfectly modern...you could wear it in your 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's, etc...

this is investment dressing...this is how one builds a wardrobe... ;)

Valentino: At some of the more outrageous circus-cum-couture shows, watching the crowd reaction is nearly as entertaining as taking in the show itself: What must those rarefied couture clients think? Would any of them dare to dress that way? And where would she go if she did? At Valentino, however, while his clothes are a testimony to the tradition and the craft that set hearts aflutter, imagining the transition from runway to reality is seamless — and, often, glorious. Val’s mission isn’t to stun, but to make his women stunning. And when his bank of dewy socialites rose to give the man a standing ovation after he showed his ultrapolished collection on Monday night, it was hardly a surprise.
In an ode to that transglobal clientele, this season Valentino presented 37 looks against projected images of 37 different cities. (Of course, that’s counting Oz, for those who believe in somewhere over the rainbow.)

the real point of Valentino’s worldwide tour is that his polished ladies look glamorous at any longitude or latitude. They move in the haute monde, no matter where their crystal-encrusted shoes take them. Val’s chic — and theirs — is a moveable feast.

Is this dress supposed to represent Australia? its entitled "Oz, over the rainbow"

There are some very beautiful pieces... I love the details - those shoes are gorgeous!

Personally, the A/W 2004 couture was more interesting. It was so dramatic and stood out more. I've heard that it's more challenging to design for spring because there's less to work with.
