Vanity Fair May 2016 : Amy Schumer by Annie Leibovitz

This is fun, i mean they have done that Monroe Playboy shoot to death, and back, but Amy makes it dynamic.

The Trump Tweet they put on the cover cracked me up, not long now when they feature him on the cover!

I like her and this cover/editorial, mocking the ridiculousness that is a woman riding a rocket.
the "Sisters" font though... horrible.

Oh my.... what....

Vile! I'm sorry, it looks more like a parody than anything. The one-piece she's wearing looks like it's made from a very rigid type of material. A rug, perhaps?

I also don't understand the coverline. I thought Amy Schumer was loved by everyone, when did she get flak for anything?

P.S. The shot of her on the rocket.....:o

I like it. They're clearly making fun at the way women are usually asked to pose.

She looks like she's smelling her armpit, awful. I don't care if it's parody or not, it's just bad.

I really like Amy Schumer and her show, but I can't take this seriously. It's like a parody gone wrong.

Exactly. This is a send up of all the annoying pin up photos that we're given on almost every single men's magazine cover, it is meant to be a parody–whether or not it works is up to the viewer but I love that they're mocking this style of photography.

And the one with the rocket is even funnier to me. She looks like she's about to pitch off. The fact that this same photo shoot is probably being done in a non-ironic manner right now for another publication only makes it funnier. I mean, how many times have you seen a woman baring her armpit and arching her back while staring into the camera and pushing her chest out.

I'm not sure they were trying to do a parody... This is exactly how Vanity Fair frequently shoots their female stars, undressed sexpot glamour. I don't think Leibovitz is capable of doing irony or has any interest in it... And long gone are the days when Vanity Fair had ironic, funny covers - like Roseanne's two covers, Brooke Shields and a live turkey, Jack Nicholson's covers. I think VF is doing that thing of "even women with a body like Amy Schumer's can still be attractive to men!" because you know, that's what matters

But what would the second picture be considered besides being comic / parody / some kind of joke?

The fact that they frequently shoot their stars like this is part of what makes it parody.

It's Amy, I just enjoy it for what it is.

I suppose they did intend for parody, it just didn't live up to my standards (as usual  ) I'm not sure it has the full intended effect when they almost always shoot their female celebs in that same glamourous style with dead seriousness. It's like they're making fun of themselves for one month and then going back to their usual Old Hollywood homages with their female stars.
