Vertiginous Platforms F/W 06.07 & S/S 07

the balenciaga's are interesting, but a little too much...cool on the runway though

to me...this is a classic trend already, and one i;ve been trying to get my siter to do every seasonB) ...

what i hate though, is that once a shoe trend gets to moderately-priced retail (and already has...kind this spring) they make it so gauche studs, schmuds, snakeskin, multicoloured leather..... . how hard is it to directly rip off the runway design?!?! there are officially no modest shoes to be bough in canadian retail

oh, I think those Balenciaga are interesting, very unique, I would love to wear the blue ones. Dig the Chloe too, cute I enjoy platforms thoroughly, I love the way they make your legs look

I like it very much when the shoe is not too gothic. Otherwise it's a fabulous look. I don't think I will be trying it myself though, because like Kimkhuu said, it looks best with a miniskirt. Plus I'm not sure how would I manage to walk in them, I can walk in ordinary heels, but this is extreme.

when worn with tights i think the contrast can make platforms look contemporary, without losing sophistication, but in order for the style to work for me, platforms have to compliment the outfit, not be the outfit, otherwise it risks looking a little try hard? failing that, the outfit has to be ultra simple.

which is a total contradiction, but hopefully you (or at least one of you!) will understand what im saying. the look is fashion conscious, not fashion junkie.

I think we will be seeing flats again in a season or two and then back to platforms and wedges. Just the typical fashion cycle, so I am going to keep all my favorites and invest in a shoe if it works for me and my style, not the trend of the season. I still have my pointy stilettos and strappy sandals, along with ballet flats and Prada wedges. I think the designers will continue to shake things up each season, but with the customer becoming so much more informed (virtually any one can see the runway looks and not filtered through a magazine editorial) that he or she will buy more according to their taste and what catches their eye, not what a magazine says is in.

This is a marketing trend I see in other industries as well. I do marketing and design for concrete company (strange I know) and I see this more informed customer everywhere. Mostly thanks to the web.

That said, I love wedges that have more of an "S" curve to the back. I have a Prada and a Terry de Havilland pair that do that and I love them. So sleek looking, but still fun.

I think the form is WAY off for those such platforms. Only platforms I've been used to are some of the platform shoes worn by models of the Hot Import Nights "Glow-Go" (go-go dancing with hot ladies in high platform boots) dancers. I don't really like the style of many of the shoes. It's like the shoes have platforms that don't seem to flow well with the rest of the shoe. If I was a lady, I'd probably feel uncomfortable wearing these, not to mention matching these up with a certain wardrobe of mine (if I was a lady). I'd probably choose a wedge heel that fits the length of my feet whether flat or elongated. Since I wear a men's size 10 1/2 shoe, I want the bottom of the shoe to be a 10 1/2 heel, not something like a 8 1/2 at the bottom while my feet are 10 1/2.

It took me a little time to love drapey gaucho pants with tall boots, but it may take MUCH longer for me to appreciate this trend.

I think these kind of platforms only look good with tights and skinny pants... because I think it clashes with anything too baggy and can look a bit funny in any other context.....

now being able to walk in those must be the biggest issue...

i like these a lot as long as the heel doesn't look too bulky - see MJ and Balenciaga... some are are just perfect but for the most part they look ridiculously high.
