Viktor & Rolf S/S 10

but telepathic,i wasn't speaking in terms of their early seasons. in fact that's why they continue to leave me feeling this way. there is no depth in what they do anymore to justify these kinds of theatrics. and if you get beneath the exaggerated frills and tulle, you get exactly as they decided they wanted to strive for...commerce. my problem is they continue to employ these antics which i feel are very contradictory to their core goals. because if you take away these add-ons all you have are just these safe pieces. there's no real continuity in it....you ultimately have nothing but a gimmick.
their core goal is to show a vision and creativity and to sell perfumes. The overall collection is balanced, just the right amount of showpieces (I guess thats what you mean with add-ons) and more commercial (?) garments.

I have never been a big fan of their work for the last ten years, mainly because I miss the depth of their earlier work. The credibility. However, in times like these, I am fully supportive of ANY designer that has the guts to do what they do. Having fun and trying to make an exciting collection AND NOT TAKING THEMSELVES SO BLOODY SERIOUS LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. I totally applaud them for it. Inspiration nowadays is hard to find in fashion. And it takes guts!!!!

You keep on making the same comments every single season about V&R.
If you really wanna go on and on about their core goals (which of course is selling $$$$), just go to the showroom and take a look at the stuff that will end up in the shops ($$$$). But I also think that you should give them a chance, maybe just for the sake of originality and guts.

By the way, how awesome will this look in editorials??!!!
TBH I just hope suzy is a bit mild this season.

anyone who's wearing those on redcarpets has my respect for MY WHOLE life !

jeremy scott used to be able to come with that on the catwalk.

editorial masterpieces !!!!!
you just wish Grace Jones and Goude would do something together again.

though some lot commercial rtw pieces interludes. some are very very nice.

That would be the most amazing thing on earth!!! Goude and Grace.

And Roisin is so adorable wearing that pink frou.

I don't think any of us can comment on their core goals unless we are them, or they have a mission statement or manifesto somewhere. You can assume what you think their goals are, or what you think they should be, but that doesn't mean we know.

I think you mean they have a new backer right?

nope, that is not what I meant

In august 2008 Oscar Raaijmakers and Süleyman Demir became the new headdesigners, replacing (I think) Erik Jan Frenken

I gotta agree with Scott and wheneveriwakeup here. I have nothing against "unwearability" - I'm all for wit, satire, surrealism, mystery, etc., I let Gareth Pugh convince me for a couple of seasons before I lost my patience, but I see none of it here, just plain old trite gimmick, extravaganza "jokes", showmanship and looks good for a laugh. It's irritating, especially in this economic climate when a lot of talented designers are feeling the squeeze, to be so disrespectful. V&R used to be humourous and witty, but now they're just loud, vulgar and childish.

Roisin sounds amazing, can't wait for the full video from the show!

If they have something smart to say with this collection, a visionary punchline, etc., shouldn't it have come across loud and clear by now after all these dresses the size of small homes instead of leaving us perplexed and (not) amused?

The fact that the "visionary punchline" doesn't come served on a plate, doesn't make it an unintelligent collection, I think.

It kinda reminds me of Memphis design. Speaks for itself.

Enough defending Viktor&Rolf (haven't done that in a while!). I just hope the reviews are a bit better than usual, they deserve it! :ninja:

You don't have to defend the collection - it should defend, and "speak" for itself. Each collection should, that's the point, otherwise, it's pretty pointless. If they don't say anything much, maybe there isn't anything much to speak of.

That is new information for me. thanks!

How fun was that? Love Roisin, the music sounds great, and can't wait to see the major pieces in eds.
