Vogue Italia December 2016 by Bruce Weber

Such a waste of paper, these pointless multicovers are ridiculous! print just two covers and be done with it, or print a fold out with 5 images...
I hope that Franca got out of her system whatever experiment 2016 was about and next year will have a more clear direction...

The idea is quite lovely. There are some good pictures but by the end I think that Bruce was, once again, trapped.

Gigi and Kim make no sense here. It's a bit hypocrite of me to talk about nepotism when Jean has a cover but Jean's youthful appearance screams Christmas. She is the ultimate little elf and fits the theme. She looks adorable in the main eds. Kim and Gigi look as "plastic fantastic" as ever and it really sends the wrong message to me "hey, we are doing something for the dogs here but these reality TV celebrities still matter the most". Oh well...

I love the last pictures of the actors/designers/directors with their dogs in really candid pictures. I also love the story with Bruce's favourite books and the history dogs. :)

And why isn't Guinevere here? She is probably the most outspoken model about dog charity, she receives stray/shelter dogs in her own home to care for a week or so and she owns two dogs (one of them disabled) that came from shelters... And David Gandy who also is connected to dog charity and shelters. The "casting" for this seems so last minute.

I'm almost certain Gigi's first shot formed part of a US Vogue edit, so not everything we'll see will be new then? Weird!

^I think so as well, all those celebrities pics don´t seem new. eg there´s a James Franco pic that looks really old, because he looks like a kid.

I love the main editorial, mostly because of Jean

Yikes, the other 3 covers are awful.

Imagine getting paid to spam the world with images of your own obsessions? And imagine reaching the point where you've done it so many times, you've got nothing new to say. Your images fall back on the energy of youth coming through, and you can't really take credit for creating that, because that's the nature of photogenic young people. Just turn up with a dog to match each outfit change, and tell everyone to have a good time.

Hmm, so I kinda dig these. The first one posted is still my favorite, but I think the other three are kinda cool too. The one with the baby is such a WTF cover that it took me a minute to get on board. But it's just so cute. The one with the dancers is what I associate Weber with most, and I'm always here for some beefcake so no complaints. The one with all the lace is my least favorite, but I don't mind it.

With that said, VI needs to go back to having just one cover each month.

The first time that Vogue Italia launch a male (and baby) cover without a woman. Wow!

the editorial is ridiculously long and mostly uninteresting. there's some great images here and there, i guess, but that's it.

is this kim kardashian's first time in VI?

There you have it, Bruce Weber's conceptualisation in a nutshell! I'm just personally surprised that this type of recycling continues unabated under the guise of 'signature photography', but then I shouldn't be because look at the likes of Von Unwerth who's made a career of it.

I can't figure out why but I suspect Bruce Weber likes dogs...

As I was browsing through the main editorial... it really started to dawn on me that this was shot 100% for dogs and not for the clothes.. which is weird since it's Vogue.

And is the Gigi photo an outtake from the US Vogue editorial? If no, then it's sad to see how similar it looks. If yes, then is it really part of the cover story for this month? If again, yes, then has Vogue Italia seriously come to a point that it now takes up outtakes of another magazine for their main cover story?

There were so many far better photographs that could have been used for the cover. The Campbell girl's editorial is decent and other photographs would have sufficed for the cover. What a waste. The rest were all unnecessary.

This cover and editorial will seriously go to my "VI is nothing without Meisel" shelf.

They are using outtakes from Weber's personal archive for years actually
There are 2 eds - Jean Campbell's one and the one with Ysaunny Brito in it, the rest is from his archive just to fill more pages. Sasha Lane is in Vogue Beauty by Weber, her cover came from this ed

Per usual nothing worthy of me parting with my 20 dolla bill yo ^_^

So what's with the cover wedding vibes?

and more importantly what is it about this social media age we live in today that leads once luminary photographic legends to produce such flat, forgettable work devoid of joy, originality? Meisel, Lindbergh, McDean, Klein, Sims, Sorrenti, Roversi, Von Unwerth...

A baby and a dog and a guy in a dog costume? What's going on here?

only Jean's cover available in a bookstore near Duomo, Milan today...flipped thru this issue and nothing is interesting

There's one thing about giving to a photographer an entire issue (or almost an entire issue) to shoot. That photographer needs to be versatile and to work with stylists who pushes him.
I don't want to be the advocate of Meisel but he has range. He can do simple portraits, risk-taking eds and very edgy things too. I&V, Sorrenti and others can do that too...

Weber is great, he is a genius but he can't handle an entire issue. First of all, his obsessions has been showcased in every publication possible. Animals, silliness, humor...We have seen it many times. It's beautiful but what's the point..

I love Roversi but i would never gives him an entire issue to shoot. Testino also is quite limited today...
M&M are lucky they can steal from anyone but it doesn't really make them interesting.

Everything is good and appealing so far but not enough to spend on Vogue Italia.
