Vogue Italia June 2011 : Candice Huffine, Tara-Lynn & Robyn Lawley by Steven Meisel

Can anyone with the issue tell me if it is actually a curvy issue or just a normal issue of Vogue Italia that happens to have two stories with plus size models? I have to say that it is actually nicer if its the latter. Seeing different body types in magazines should (fingers crossed) become just a normal thing instead of an OMG LOOK AT WHAT WERE DOING - WE ARE SO MAKING A STATEMENT sort of deal.

There is no reason why we shouldn't be able to see these girls alongside Lara, Freja, etc. Would love to see a shoot where Tara Lynn and Daria Werbowy are side by side.

agreed with the pairing of different sizes. hilary rhoda and crystal renn did it so well in the 2007 shape issue of vogue

VI has really been suckish lately. Meisel is getting boring, Franca is becoming uninspired, and VI isn't really inspiring anymore.

^Jajaja that's what people always say until the next issue even "disappoints" them more while maximun three years later we wished we bought this one.

reminiscing of Miesel's early cover photoshoots
could it be he is returning to some of his roots

although I don't know the models
Hope for bigger HQ eds, Micaela looks like Ruslana on those shots

^^ From reports that appear to be properly verified *ahem* there are only the 2 editorials featuring larger models, and the rest is business as usual.

Will be interested to see who is and is not advertising in the issue as a reflection of Sozzani's ability to fund 'unpopular' issue concepts. You would think that a blended range of sizes/models would be an easier sell to clients than a token issue full of only larger sizes - so why aren't more editors taking that approach?

Honestly, most editors probably couldn't care less about larger size models being included.

I so agree with the last statement that I have highlighted in bold. I think it's about time that we see that in magazines, 'no? ^_^

I have no idea about Michaela Kocianova (is she a model or an actress?) but her editorial is really beautiful. Love every single of those photos

She is a Slovak model. I just googled her. She has been around since 2007!

I already googled her and yes she's a model and she has a thread on TFS lol...never knew her thou, but she's gorgeous and looks really great in this editorial

I'm not sure if this has already been posted, but just saw it on Franca's blog on vogue.it:
(bolding is franca's)

The magazine is not officially out yet, but questions on the reason behind the title Belle Vere (Truly Beautiful Women) have already arrived, along with another question: if these women are more beautiful, more beautiful compared to whom? First of all, this title has been conceived to raise controversy and to start a discussion. It's clearly a thought-provoking title. And, most of all, it doesn't want to defend anybody. I'm referring to the June issue of Vogue Italia, with a cover and an opening editorial featuring curvy women.

i love the cover and the ed, but i would love if the styling wasn't so repetitive...it reminded me of the toccara ed by meisel as well. but they look great and i love how vi showed their bodies.

as Luxx said, i would love if one day plus sized models were shot with "regular" models. it would contribute to look at eds in a normal way, since in real life there are all kinds of beauty that fashion magazines don't portray...and we wouldn't analyze this cover as "gimmicky". just my 2 cents.

Meisel did shoot Crystal Renn together with thin models for the March 2004 issue. But only once in 7 years is hardly a sign of improvement.
