i'm gonna look for some gold sandals online and post in yay or nay...thanks luna and i_<3_chanel! :flower:

ok, so I bought this super cheap skirt in Chinatown for $10, and I am having trouble with it. It's just black with tiny white polka dots and a black layer of tulle underneath. but wearing it with just black looks sooooooooo 90's (in the BAD way, not the vixen-kylie way). I always wear tons of color, so wtf is wrong with me, in not being able to find something to wear with it? I also can't decide which shoes look the best with it...I am 5'10, and sometimes my view gets skewed by my giantness...suggestions?

Kilmair, I tink gold would be too much, to evening, when this is more of a day dress. i think tan or beige would be better, or even white sandals, if you like that

maybe something like this?

I just bought a chocolate brown dress to wear this weekend for my friends birthday. A martini gathering, and then out to the club to go dancing. I have fabulous strappy pink stiletto's.

But I love the dress so much (it's cut just perfectly for my body), I want to be able to wear it all summer. Any suggestions to make it more casual?

The neckline/shape of the dress is like this, except chocolate in in color and knee length.

It will look more casual if you wear it with some flat sandals, but imo there is nothing casual about that dress.

;)

I know! It's driving me nuts cause I love it so much. I was thinking maybe if I slung a thick leather belt around the waist, and some flat sandals or my vintage cowboy boots it might look okay, give it a tougher look?

Kimair, I would go for the gold sandals, I think that makes the dress look a bit more radomly, and as you said not so matchy.
The dress is very cute though :flower:

i would try colored flats, maybe red or silver...how long is the skirt? and is it full or more of a pencil shape? if it's fuller and knee length, i would wear flats. even white flats could be cool with a grey tank or tee. i would stay away from brights, it might make it look too 80s.

stilettogirl84: it is a day wedding (starts at noon), so i can get away with a shoe like that. i don't want something super flashy, that's why i thought a pale gold (not too metallic) could work)...

thanks tinetush! :flower:

the dress is yellow cotton with lace layers and floral embroidery.

Hey Kimair!

Call me crazy, but I'd actually go with a contrasting shoe to pop the color. The gold will be really subtle if that's what you'd prefer, but I think a colorful shoe would add more interest. Something saturated in a round-toe or peep-toe pump.

I also think you could pull off an animal print w/ that nice yellow. It would give it an edge. I'm thinking of Kate Moss' yellow chiffon dress and leopard coat when I say this. I thought it really worked!

Here are some examples:

Nordstrom:

The white isn't exactly saturated, but I still like it. I don't think the t-bar is the right shape, but I love the blue color.

NM - these two  they're my favorite:

^^ There's something similar to the first ones for like 20 something dollars on Victoriassecret.com ;)

I really like those jeweled flats. Yeah, it's satin, wich makes it really hard to "tone" down. But I think with a wide leather belt and the jeweled sandels it would be okay?

i like the idea of a wide belt, but im afraid leather might look too heavy for the dress.... why dont you try a thick sash instead?

i think the dress can also be worn with jeans (light&slightly distressed), flats, with a cute bolero/cardigan over it.
im not sure if its your style, but just a suggestion :flower:

Thanks Kimair! the skirt is halfway between my knees and hips (i cant recall the measurements), and it is ruffly, so more of an aline

what do you wear with a sequin full skirt (dimri brand) thats about a little more than knee length, very full (twirls!! ^_^)
it's black with silver sequins and white lining.

thanks!!!

^ it depends on where you're planning to wear it with, really! if it were me, I'd keep it really, really simple on top - a simple tank top in black or white, and black ballet shoes perhaps? the skirt sounds stunning, and since it seems quite glittery in itself, it doesn't sound like you need to do much to show it off. ^_^

also another idea i had...

for the skirt or any long skirt really...

what about wearing it as a dress and the belting it...and if its short (like at the hip) putting a tight pencil skirt under it...

interesting? it sounds good in my head...:innocent:
