Is your BD party less formal? Could you wear jeans with that top?
If so I'd pair that top with black jeans blaec.com, cropped black jacket net a porter.com; red bag /dior/ from NM.com; white scarf - NM.com; and some wild black boots /YSL NM.com.

Did you buy that red ballerina shoes? If it the weather is right you can wear them with the above and a white bag.

Bee on the 1st dress to dress it down you could wear a long sleeve tee like this one from Target or a short sleeve brown tee.Both at Target.But fitted tees.
Bee you could wear some brown flats to dress it down.To dress it up you could wear a nice gold necklace and earrings and some strappy gold sandals.The 2nd dress good choice in shoes to dress it down I would wear those shoes and a red tank under the dress.To dress it up wear a black beaded necklace and black strappy sandals.

andway- I like the top, & I'd pair it with skinny black pants-long ones with ankle boots or cropped ones with pumps or heeled sandals

If you don't like to show your arms/shoulders or you get cold, I'd wear a cropped black blazer. one that's shorter than the top so part of it shows under.

For a bag, I'd do a purple or white clutch and some chunky silver jewelry to finish it off

Stilettogirl and Lamalone, thank you both so much for your suggestions, I think I will go with the skinny pants idea. Going to have a look in Gap at those ones Lamalone. I also have a short satin jacket from last year, so that would be perfect as a cover up to get to the party whilst still showing the top, but i forgot I had it until now!!

A friend of mine got this and wears it with above the knee shorts, tights, and ankle boots. I think it would be great under an a-line dress or with an a-line skirt (to continue the line).

Its got spaggeti straps, a bit of lace near the bust area and then really slinky fabric (dont know what exactly it is.. its not silk coz silk is not see through, but its not net either. its not blatently see through, but if you held it up against the sun, you could definately see though it) that falls till about knee length.
If i were to wear it as a dress, what kind of undergarments to wear?

maybe you could pair with a pair of denim or khaki crops as well as a cardigan
