What Model Do You Admire?

It's wrong how everybody is saying tha models shouldn't be looked up to, etc. like doctors because doctors help the society, etc... yes doctors do have noble jobs for saving lives and all but you can't judge a person by their career! There are doctors who are horrible people and models may do one thing as a career but be totally selfless and caring in life... for instance, I read someplace that Vlada is plannning on becoming a psychologist after her modelling career and that is helping people as well... Just a point...

Maybe I'm the only one, but I don't find Natalia's story all that admirable. :ninja: Her becoming a top model is a lot of luck (being the first of the doll-faced models, right place, right time, etc) and marrying an aristocrat, well anyone can do that I think. I've always wondered how much of Natalia's success came from her having a fairy-tale story.

My thoughts exactly.

Not to say that models don't deserve kudos. Some are incredibly hardworking, some are great philanthropists, some have an incredible mind for business, or whatever - I just don't think having a fairytale as a backstory is something to admire.

I 2nd that, i believe her "fairytale" is just hyped up alot.

I tell you who I admire the most...

AMANDA MOORE, hands down. She didn't want to be a model.... heck, never even thought of it. But became the most successful supermodel that ever graced the runway, print, ed. And one of the very few if not the only one in the business that is pleasant to work with and well liked , overwhelmingly by all photographers and fashion editors, designers. A rarity in the industry. And seldom is unheard of.

She's open and honest about herself which in this industry many are not for the fear of jeopardizing their source of income.

Comes from a military family and her brother is in Iraq and/or overseas defending our beloved country, U.S. of A. ! "down with terrorism!"

Good head on her shoulder personally and professionally.

hmm i agree...i admire natalia but not because she's got a "fairy tale" story. she does good things and gives back to children in russia, so i think that aspect is admirable :)

a lot of reasons to admire her... :flower: but let me say I don't agree very much on the admiration on how your beloved country deals with terrorism... but that's another story and obviously has nothing to do with her brother. :)

^^

:o o O (Oh! can't mix fashion with politics...)
:D ok, let's kiss and make peace... muuuuuuuuuuuuuuhaaaaa!

yeah, a fashion forum isn't exactly the best place to speak about politics... also because here it's against the rules!
but politics is everywhere, in any decision we make and any job we have...
:flowers: :)

Alessandra Ambrosio - for being an easy-going, relaxed and a simple girl I bet she is while being so cool and a supermodel

Karen Elson - for being so brave and honest to tell the whole world about her school years that didn't always run smooth and the issues she was dealing with and for being pretty, but a different-looking model

MariaCarla Boscone - for being such a totally friendly person I'm sure she is, for portraiting beauty, not by her looks alone, but also by how she acts and speaks and for being one of those few supermodels, who, I think, truly enjoy what they do

Lonneke Engel - for being so sweet and down-to-earth

I wish all of them best of luck and hope to see them modeling for many many years on:heart: :flower:

;) Also,

I always had lots of respect for Claudia Shiffer for being so determined, devoted and a real professional she is, although I don't particularly see the great model in her

And,

I find Natalia Vodianova's story so fascionating and beautiful, and, although I don't buy in all that is told about her life both before and after she became a model, and, do think that a good part of the story may be somewhat artificial, I still find that story simply adorable as it is something that really could happen. And, well, who really needs the truth in this business, anyways;) ?

I also think that she's a pretty cleaver lady and I really admire that she runs charity projects for disabled children.

One more

Fernanda Tavares for running against natural fur by refusing to wear it, because I totally agree with that and have respect for people who have the mind of their own and are not afraid to clearly state it.:flower:

THAT is the most ridiculous thing i have ever heard of. As a model, do i believe i am changing the world? helping save lifes? making a difference? HECK NO. However, i love this industry and the people in it because it is fun, crasy and you can meet some wonderful people. Modelling itself isnt going to make a difference to the world, but it is a good opportunity for girls (or guys) to interact with many different people and gain a better understanding of the world.

There certainly are some admirable people out there who give care and understanding to others but such traits you can find in your neighbour or teacher!

So while Natalia's catwalking might not get her admiration, her charity work for russian children is.

Wait, I'm confused, did you not just totally contradict yourself? I think that what stylexstar was saying was that admiration shouldnt just be reserved for people with extraordinary jobs but for the way one leads their daily life, like using what they are given, big or little, to help others and do great things.

Anyways, I think Carmen Kass, although she isnt my favourite model per se, is very admirable because of her whole story of how she first got into modelling, the way she had to stick up for herself and learn to be completely independant.

Susan Eldridge, for overcoming her bad childhood and being successful

Thank you! lol My point exactly! :flower:

I also have great admiration for Petra Nemcova lately. Since her near death experience she has become selfless individual and then some. Very poignant and emotional when she gave her award to her sister whom she helped pay her way to a college education at NYU. Blood is thicker than water, no pun intended.
