What to wear to prom or homecoming

i'm going to my boyfriend's prom in january.
i have this dress: what do you think about it? well it's rather a cocktail dress than a prom dress...
should i buy a new dress? what about jewellery & shoes?

I had that dress for my prom :

This year in June I'm going to finish school. I live in Germany, so I don't have a prom or anything. I just have a little ceremony with friends and family with a party afterwards. It is expected that one must dress nice, but not formal. I already bought an dress, but I'm not so sure if it's the right one.

It's from H&M and cost 30€, so it's kind of cheap. I'm not really sure if it looks like it. My parents say that I will have to pay it by myself, so something a lot more expensive isn't possible. :(

I'm seventeen years old, I have dark brown hair, blue eyes and really pale skin. I wear a size 8.

I'm also totally lost on the hair and the accessories.

Your opinion?:flower:

(Sorry for all the akward English)

From the neckline I'm guessing it's this dress?

I think it's a very cute dress. I've been wanting to get it myself when it gets warmer, actually.
I'm sure you will look wonderful on your graduation day!

so at my high school everyone wears the typical shiny rhinestone strappy cheap looking prom dresses.... that look is sooo not me and i really want to use this occasion to show my fashion forward style. i thought long and hard about it and i really wanna wear a dress with long sleeves. i know it might sound crazy but i think it will make me stand out in a good way which is what i want. i've found some great long sleeve gowns on style.com but im wondering if you guys have any suggestions.. i'd really appreciate the help

^Normally I don't think I would like a dress like that, but I think it makes an awesome prom statement. I'd totally wear it. :ninja:

Blondes, is that dress from H&M? Is it in stores now?

I went to the website and couldn´t find it..
i really like the dress!

^^I wore my prom dress, put some tights on (it was chilly) and ballerinas.

^Blondes I have the same question as Lux about that dress. WANT it.
^alexzandramarie. I changed and wore a 1960s sequined party dress with my converse. Remember to wear comfy shoes.

I really need help trying to find a dress for my sixth form ball - I know exactly the kind of thing I want but I can't find it anywhere! My dream dress:
  • has a bateau neckline
  • has a v-neck back
  • is made out of a silky fabric
  • has either a drop waist or is nipped in at the waist
For examples:
s320x240
s320x240

s320x240
s320x240

Obviously it doesn't need to fit all these requirements as that dress may not exist, but some of them would be nice! If anyone has seen anything or has any ideas of where to look I'd be so greatful. If anyone has seen some very simple patterns that would be good to know too (though I don't think an occasion as big as this is the best time to venture into the world of dressmaking, maybe someone I know could help me)

Thank you SO MUCH in advance! xxxx

Have you tried going to vintage stores yet? Bateau neck dresses were very popular in the '50s and '60s for evening gowns.
