White & Green tea

I switched to green tea some years ago (could not drink coffee so tea was my mornign/evening drink), and drink lots of it nowadays. I always buy loose tea, mostly Chinese green tea like Gunpowder and Moon Palace Chun Mee, then some Japanese teas (not powdered ones, they are too expensive and I can not get them from where I am living) and also white tea. So far I have enjoyed them, I like the taste of green and white teas much more than black teas. Also red tea is ok, great for relaxing.

I was thinking about the coffee and tea, and how you always should drink a glass of water with your coffee because coffee, as my cosmetologist says, messes up your fluid balance. I also have heard that the black tea does the same. But how about green tea? I have always believed that it is very healthy, and keeps you fluids flowing apart from messing things up. I actually had a minor fight over the matter with my cosmetologist when I told I drink 1,5-2 litres of water and then about 0,5-1 litres of green tea daily. She was horrified and said that then I shoul drink at least one extra liter of water, because of my high tea drinking. I could not believe this.

Actually, as I was Googling I found a site about coffee, which says that the advice to drink extra glass of water with every cup of coffee is completely false information, because coffee does not have that much of influence on body fluids...so I am even more confused.

It is actually funny how I now automatically think that coffee and black tea = BAD and water and green tea = GOOD.

I've always heard green tea is very good for your skin because of the antioxidants it contains. I think it is even recommended because of this.

Thanks for the advice, I don't think I will be buying them the next time I go to England. I have atleast two or three packs of their tea at my kitchen cupboard as I haven't been able to drink them.

What is the best British tea label?

Twinings. I know you can get it anywhere (and maybe thats why I have a soft spot for it) but for me there is no need poncey when you can get Twinings. That said - there is a lovely market in Cambridge where a man sells lots of different types of loose teas. Cambridge is lovely so I think it's worth your while to go! And I obviously drink clipper (organic and fairtrade) so....mix and match! There is a beautiful tea place in West London though that may be worth a visit.

I've been to Cambridge, it is such a beautiful place. Too bad I missed this tea place you are describing. Whereabouts in there it's located? Do you know the address? I have friends there, I could ask them more about the teas.

I don't like Twinings, but I think I have seen Clipper tea here where I live... I have to check out the next time I go grocery shopping.

yes clipper is great. It's in the town centre I believe. There is a big square with a market. There is also a french connection there (thats the only store I remember) and one of the stalls is a man who sells loose leaf tea :flower:

I think you know the place you are meaning - I have to tell my friend in Cambridge to start shipping tea for me ;)

Oh, sorry I meant "I think I know the place you are meaning". A little typo, sorry.

I've been drinking a lot more tea lately. Black or green mostly. We have a tea bar at the mall I work at, which is great. Green tea is much more refreshing than coffee. When I start work, I usually grab some iced green tea.

HAHAH, SHOOT ME..but I've never even tried Green Tea ever before! LOL. Let alone white tea...hahah.

Can this thread be made into just a Tea thread (not just white and green)? We're all talking about different types of tea, I think it should be a general thread. :flower: Anyone else agree?

Anyways, I just bought a delicious rooibos tea today with vanilla! I wanted to share this information I found online about red (rooibos) tea:

Rooibos has no caffeine and is low in tannin, so it can be enjoyed all day long without any unpleasant side effects. This also makes it a great tea for pregnant women and nursing mothers.

Various studies have shown the many health problems that can be helped by drinking Rooibos tea:

Eases irritability, headaches, nervous tension and insomnia.
Acts as an anti-spasmodic agent, to relieve stomach cramps and colic in infants
Can be used to treat hay fever, asthma and eczema
Placed directly on the skin, it can slow the aging process
Boosts the immune system
Rooibos tea contains no oxalic acid, so it can safely be consumed by people who are prone to kidney stones.

There are so many minerals in the tea, that it can almost be considered a nutritional supplement:

- Copper
- Iron
- Potassium
- Calcium
- Fluoride
- Zinc
- Manganese
- Alpha-hydroxy (great for the skin)
- Magnesium

thanks for the info thekiwi. ^_^

what do you girls and guys think about snapple's white tea? it's chilled, I drink it, but is it any good, health wise?

^ I'd like to know as well! I drink those from time to time because they sell them on my campus. I think they're really tasty. At least they are healthier than soda, we know that much! :p

a new tea place opened down the street from me. i've been meaning to try it. they have 150 kinds of loose, organic tea. yippee!

Is it smart to drink green tea before going to the gym to give you more energy? Or is it not a good idea to workout after having caffeine?

Uh, I absolutely loooove green and white tea. 'm totally hooked on a green tea with an caramel fudge-like aftertaste -it sounds disgusting, I know, but it's kind of rounding up the whole experience in each and every sip!

I drink about 1 L a day, depends on how much I have to study at home -if I have to read a lot it'll easily be 2-3 L (and 3-4 AM!)...

Please be careful about the caffeine. It sounds like you are overdoing it. Switch to herbal or Rooibos teas. Too much caffeine has a host of problems, not least the fact that it depletes calcium and can lead to osteoporosis.

No worries (but thanx for your concern :flower: )

1 L is about 4 cups, that's not too much over a whole day, I think...

Herbal and rooibos :yuk: Can't drink that stuff...
