Why do tFSers like to congratulate each other on their purchases?

I'll congratulate another member on their purchase if it is something that:

is hard to get (getting it involves shopping skill) and I know the member has been wanting for a long time..
I myself would want (complimenting the member on their excellent taste )
I think embodies the members style
is won on ebay (particularly if it is a steal)

the monetary value of the item doesn't register - there are plenty of designer items that are perfectly hidious...and H&M items that are great and vis versa..

Not everybody in real life would be able to appreciate my joy with a new purchase, for the most part they do not have the same shopping drive nor the interest in fashion.. but I know that if I post about it here.. the chances of getting feedback from someone like minded is relatively high.

I'm not sure if this is the appropriate spot for this, but here goes.

I've been wondering for a long time:

Why to us (as TFSers) congratulate someone when they make a purchase? I've seen dozens and dozens of posts congratulating someone when they purchase something - usually of a high monetary value? Why is that a reason to congratulate someone? Maybe I'm dense and though I’m happy for them, I think saying “congratulations” is a bit much. Is there a rationale for it; something I’m missing?

congrats to everyone! this thread is pretty funny....but i love you all here on TFS....and i love seeing what other people are buying as much as i love sharing my new purchases. i dont have trendy friends and i dont live in a fashion conscious city. this forum is my way to connect with others who share the love of fashion, and thank goodness most of us are diehard addicts!

Isn't what this forum is about? Maybe it is shallow - But THIS IS THE FASHION SPOT!
IRL I would never say: "look at my new shoes". I even forbid my BF to mention to friends /which he likes to do/ my new clothing and things . But here I know how exiting is to buy something you like - so I congratulate - to show my appreciation and share the joy of a friend

^ exactly. some of us don't have people to celebrate with or comprehend the momentary happiness that a new pair of shoes or something you've lusted over for a while can bring. hehe

i love seeing what others are getting and wearing. it's so much fun!
