why do you like/hate Karl Lagerfeld?

I love the guy. I'd love to just have a conversation with him over coffee or something.. He's so talented and I will forever envy his drive and motivation. He works so damn hard man... for like, the last 50 years just going and going and going

and of course like hugo said, he loves daria :D

Lagerfeld is amazing

What he has done at Chanel is just astonishing. And for those of you that say you want a "tweed free" collection, what is wrong with you? Chanel is based on the classic tweed suit. What would Chanel be without it?

Like his work, he's kept a great old house alive. And at time, he can be wickedly witty.
But he is somewhat hypocritical -- during his "slim" furor, I'd seen several articles that indicated that Chanel does make clothes above a size 12.

The boucle suits go up to a plus size 20 Ive heard.

off topic slightly but does KL design for Fendi menswear? If not does any body know who does? Also Who designs for YSL RG (menswear) I would really like to know the designers behind these two houses thanks alot.
Paul. x

^ KL does not design the Fendi menswear, Silvia Fendi does. Stefano Pilati does both menswear and womenswear for YSL. :flower:

totally agree!, the research chanel has done with tweed is extremely remarcable i think, through each collections they keep on reinventing it wich of course gets harder and harder...... those desintegrated tweed coats for example where incredible as well as those who merged into sable fur, that endlessly copied unfinished trim, the embroideries and on the lates summer hc these sort of transparentish tweed.... all incredible!, i think it what surprises me and what i expect the most from each new chanel collection.

He is completely MAD!! Which I think is great. He perfoms consistantly well, some collections are better than others, and has his own unique style. K L for president!! BTW I loved the white feather wigs with the bold eyebrows a few(?) collections ago.

I agree that there's a lot to be said about Karl's work. Although sometimes all three labels leave a lot to be desired (e.g., the very poorly executed denim in last Chanel collection), Karl/Chanel seem to have single-handedly saved couture and all the French couture artisans from extinction.

On a personal level, I think Karl is reprehensible and demonstrates in many ways the unfortunate side of his culture. I believe that from our unpleasant experiences we are meant to learn compassion, and instead of having compassion for those in his former whale-like state (to borrow from spike  ), not to mention those who actually fall far short of it--size 12 is average, Karl, and you were not at 90+ pounds overweight--he despises them. Bad karma, Karl ... I hope for his sake there isn't reincarnation, because if there is, I know what Karl's gonna be next time :ninja:

We need details ... :D

what is the deal with him and brad kroenig, is/was he like his play thing, lap dog, pool boy, man servant, or all of the above? Very weird. Very mysterious.
I once went to a dinner party hosted by KL at the maritime hotel, and it was the weirdest thing I've ever been to, very initimate, and I felt very awkward and left immediately. (it was like the scene in eyes wide shut, minus the masks, secret location and naked hookers).

Posing for Chanel has got to be the easiest job. You stand outside of a Chanel store next to a parking meter or fire hydrant, stare blankly into the camera. grab a hotdog or a pretzel and that's it. lucky daria.

also, what is his deal with maria carey? Weird.

Other than his awful mullet like poytail hair do????

Good interview on TV right now: Karl L on Charlie Rose program on some east coast USA PBS channels right now. Repeating on stations in western areas later probably.

I love karl Lagerfeld, I think he's very talented. He also just seems like an intellegent, intresting person.

That fat picture of him is kinda scary, I never knew he used to be overwight.

Ooooh, you are so lucky! I saw the preview on the BBC website but sadly it's not airing in the states. (If anyone has found it online do tell, please!)

One thing I love about Karl is that he is having Chanel buy the small couture suppliers - the embroiderers, the milliners, etc, essentially saving them from extinction. He respects the tradition of couture and I appreciate him for that.

I don't love everything he designs and I think he spreads himself a bit thin, but I also find him incredibly entertaining. I hope to be that energetic when I'm his age, whichever age he's now telling people, that is. :P

^ he was born in 1938, making him either 67 or 68 depending on when his birthday is.

From New York magazine:

At 67—or 72, if the 1933 birth date on a baptismal record unearthed by German tabloids is to be believed...

:innocent:
