why do you like/ hate marc jacobs?

I like his stuff because it is... hmmmm eclectic and unreserved.
However, I feel as though I could make a lot of it myself for about 75% less $$$ and maintain the basic look.

Except his shoes, Marc Jacobs flats are the best.

I like marc jacobs clothing, but can you say over priced?? I mean the quality is good, but not great, but don't get me started on the bags and shoes! Sure, if its on sale and very cute, I'll buy it, but the shoes are WAY to pricey. I'd just rather splurge on Chloe or Delman flats because at least they have more quality. Also, many of the bags are ugly in my opinion.

I agree.
Most of his bags look like some plasticised creation of a "real" designer handbag. Wait, thats just because the shape/style of his bags were knocked off by every cheap department store you can think of :innocent:

Caffeine, if you feel like doing that, I would so appreciate a first-hand report! Not sure if I will need an 8 or 10 in this skirt, but I have pre-ordered a 10 on the principle that to go down is better than to go up :yuk: So as you can see, unlike the models I have actual hips. Despite that, I plan to make this skirt a key piece of my fall wardrobe if there's any way I can wear it.

I haven't posted an image here before, so hope this works (from style.com):

I have had bags with compartments before & like them, but prefer them not to show. Out of self defense I kind of have bags within the bag now to organize stuff like lipsticks, so I can do without compartments. I did almost like the animal print one with black pockets for Fall ...

fashionista-ta, I'll go to the boutique in the weekend at the latest. Yes I love the skirt and I like the fall collection very much (I admit that my taste is probably a little different from lots of people...). I'll try it on if they got it in the boutique and let you know how it fits.
I agree with your 10 vs 8 choice. They normally have nice tailors to take care of the alteration and the collection fits slightly smaller than other Ameircan brands. Anyway, I'll let you know:)

i dont hate marc jacobs but i wouldnt say i love him though because his designs are usually a little too simple and he just repeats the same things with different colours etc .e.g.

....but i do think he does some good shoes and bags and the odd outfits nice too

Thanks so much, Caffeine :flower:
Fashionista-ta, I went to the boutique today. They have not got your skirt yet, but I tried a similar one on - and I loved it! It's the same egg shape skirt. That one is longer and it falls to ankles. The waist fits right on the true waist (I think that it is critical for an egg shape skirt to look good; the waist has to be well defined and the top should be fitted.) It looked so unique but totally wearable! The fabric is nice and thick and well made. There are also two pockets on the sides but you can't really see them :)
I think you will look very nice in the skirt when you have hips. the curve from waist to hips looks very womanly beautiful. I fell in love with the black skirt and I think I am gonna get one. btw, it's easy to be tailored so if your 10 doens't fit, just ask their tailor in store to do the alteration for you. It's going to look amazing. I love the statement piece! Very good choice :flower:
btw, I don't think those skirts are over priced at all compared with other designer stuff. Maybe egg shape skirt is an old idea but Marc did the best job.

Thank you so much, Caffeine!!! I really appreciate your checking this out & very glad to hear the line is flattering! Which black skirt are you looking at getting?

I'm guessing that this skirt may be among the last to come in since the heavy tweed won't be wearable even in NYC for quite a while yet :yuk: Not sure how I'm gonna pull off wearing it before November in my climate, but I'm sure I will :p

It'll be very interesting to see the work on the skirt. I thought the price was at least very reasonable for the line given all the handwork that I'm sure must go into appliqueing the ribbon. I was honestly expecting it to be more. Much more, though, and I probably wouldn't have gotten it

As far as the photos meant to demonstrate that MJ repeats himself--I see nothing in common there except the shape of the neckline. There's a little thing called riffing ... ;) When you consider that human males have more genes in common with male chimpanzees than they do with women, and that we have 25% genes in common with bananas, you can see that even God repeats himself :innocent:

I just don't find anything he designs appealing to my style..I wouldn't pay anything of his price for me either.. I don't hate him tho.

fall 2004 Louise Vitton show song

Hello.... does anyone know the name of the song that was played in the fall 2004 Louise Vitton show? Only one song was played throughout the whole show, I am dying to know the name of it, may anyone help? Thanks a lot. If you don't remember the show, here's the link to it at style.com, I hope the runway images may help to refresh your memory. Thanks a million.

i like marc jacobs and most of his collections but i just hate that his 'classic' handbags i bought for nearly a thousand each (the venetia and the multipocket) are now half the retail price everywhere! i love the bags but now i'll make sure to buy them when they go on sale. :argg:

calm down! when did you buy those bags? I got one in last year and it was suede lining. I checked out the same one in Saks the other day and they changed the lining to canvas! don't like that change but it might make the bags lighter

The thing with Marc Jacobs is i wore mini versions of his clothes when i was a kid in the 70's. Anyone who is british, bought up in a middle class family in the 1970's will recognize that a lot of his daywear looks like it was inspired by a clothes brand around at the time called clothkits. It was a catalogue that your mum ordered from and the clothes arrived in cut out sheets - then she had to make them! It was a little bit hippy, all the colours were exactly the same orangey/browney/purple pallets that he usesin the MJ line. Even some of the patterns and detail remind me of MJ - I swear he has got hold of a load of these old catalogues at some point and uses them for inspiration!

That's so funny! My cousins used to model for Clothkits when they were small!!! - I was so jealous!!!

By the way - I recently tried on a metallic dot tweed jacket from the new Fall MJ Collection in Harvey Nicks. It was just shy of 2k and to be honest apart from feeling snuggly it just had absolutely nothing going for it - it looked like something a tramp might wear or a cheap knock off from the High Street with its hideous sparkly, nylon lining :yuk:

the end of last year i believe. The resort 04 collection. it was onsale at NM and saks couple months ago..or still going on?

I think I agree with a lot of people when I say that MJ makes a lot of good basics in fairly good quality. That's about it. He belongs in the "most overpriced" thread.

I absolutely hate what Marc Jacobs does for his own line & LV. I don't wanna comment on his menswear POV, but, as Manolo Blahnik said about him, MJ has been overated sooo much, be it by press. To the point where I think it's very unfair to other designers. MJ is a vintage store himself. People shouldn't really care about what he does, to be honest. There are better designers in the States worth talking about.

MB said about MJ? MB is actually overated and overpriced :yuk:. His shoes are just ok quality with a lot more higher price than he should have charged. What does a shoe maker know about clothing design?
I still firmly love Marc Jacobs. His clothes is not for everyone, but if you happen to have not that "conventional" personality and you want to show it, MJ is the choice. :flower:
