why do you like/ hate marc jacobs?

I was at Saks today - the same crap as usual, but I saw a very cheap looking Marc Jacobs mainline dress in a very cheap looking, very synthetic looking (and obviously a very synthetic fabric) dress. :yuk:

And his handbags look no different from those at belks, etc at the mall - the leather looked HORRID. It takes a lot to make Juicy Couture look high-end..the juicy bags beside the marc jacobs bags looked a lot better..

Ok. First MJ did the whole pockets and stuff for his line, then he did the exact same thing (EXACTLY the same as that one) for LV, then he did Denim for LV and now he's doing denim for himself. Please, have some originality.

True, it is not original to do a denim line after the LV denim line, but it is a great way to effectively cost cut. Even though these brands are luxury brands, they are businesses first and will always have profit in mind.

^Well, to be fair, the structure of the bag isn't bad but the denim and goldish threading with the matching handles combination is quite ugly. And that beach ball bag is cute....for children. I really couldn't imagine an adult carrying that around.

love/hate?

I've been buying his men's wear for years. Some of my favorite pieces in my closet are by him. However, I think his prices are getting more and more ridiculous each year. I mean $3000 for a cashmere zip-up sweater? I got a pcoat years ago from Nieman that is cashmere and mink mixed and I think it was like $1600. Prices certainly has gone up. I think MJ line always has something extremely ugly each year. Some of the colors are just absolutely terrible! But some of them are just divine. Same with LV men's wear. It is always a hit or miss with his collection. I have I think 3,4 pants from him. They are absolutely the worst pants ever. They fit so awkardly on me. I hate the cut and have sworn never to buy them again. With that said, I can't wait for the last big blow out sale he has every season. But sometimes I wonder even after the severe markdown, they are still extremely pricy for what they are.......

His designs are too quircky for me. Some of the stuff is very elegant and waerable though.
By the bye, does Marc have a life partner?

After reading a couple of your posts, I guess that you just do not get him at all. It's so funny for you to compare Juicy Couture with Marc jacobs. JC's bags are crap, but if you OWN one single Marc Jacobs bag, you will change your mind.

I like his bags- but his clothes/ shoes are to "girlish" or "cute" for my taste- I like something more grown
up and umm. . . bitchy?

^lots of tops in the FW05 collection are too cute, so he paired them with those dark-mood-bottoms and flats. It worked well, but you have to buy the entire the outfit to look that gorgeous. Unfortunately it is not affordable at all...even at 70% off.
I agree that his price has gone up so much and it's really insane.

Quality of his handbags

I am thinking of buying a Marc by Marc Jacobs handbag and I was wondering what you thought of in terms of quality. good or bad? thanks :flower:

I love Marc because I'm sixteen and want things that are casual and modest enough to wear to school that aren't terrible quality, utterly fugly and/or trashy like some of the other brands meant to appeal to my age group, such as Diesel or D&G or god forbid, Armani Exchange. I hate the menswear, shoes, and bags (with the exception of the Stam, though), ugh. The plaid patchwork stuff that came out last spring was horrible too. But the majority of his designs are cute and wearable enough for someone my age.

I wonder if sixteen year-olds can afford any of his clothes, looking back on my own budget back then, the only things I could buy from designers were from several seasons back/ sales.

There are some few pieces that I liked from him, such as the wedge heel wrap-around suede boots from this winter´s Marc by Marc Jacobs footwear, other than that, it´s all just a matter of styling, most of these clothes I have already seen in a not-so-deluxe version when I went thrift-shopping, I don´t think this really adds to his quality as a designer. His runway shows are always very well styled, I think it´s more about a look rather than designing really profound, substantial clothes. I think that there are many people out there these days that like the vintage-y look as seen by people like Miu Miu, Philosophy Alberta Ferretti or Marc Jacobs but that are disgusted by second hand clothes, they are very likely to then turn towards those designer. Sad.

Looking back on some individual pieces that I really hated in high fashion lately, I regret to say that it´s certainly that baby-pink furry parka that I think Caffeine owns, it´s by far too sugar-y in a way that is just very blatant to be seen as irony, also the bags that he does, yuck, they are very gimmick-y and certainly not breathtaking by design or quality.

I would give him 8/10. Marc is just being Marc and his collections come across like that.

Actually people either love or hate my coat. Seriously, some people HATE it. But for me, it's such a lift every morning in the cruel winter to even just look at the coat. Let alone it is so warm and comfortable ^_^ The quality, in this case, is superb  :flower:

The thing that is so great about MJ is that he blends vintage and modern perfectly.

To each his own, maybe it´s just the baby-pink colour that turns me off, it might be a little easier for me to accept it in that blue colour, as seen in the show...

i think some marc jacobs stuff is cute to wear but a lot of it is for more mature audience than 16 year olds....

when i was 16 my budget was rather small, or at least my parents didnt give me much money to spend that i could have ever afforded m j. now that i have my own money and can afford things im very careful of what i spend it on.

im so worried that nowadays the kids get mature too fast..

but i guess you must be one of those rich kids....
