why do you like/ hate marc jacobs?

Sometimes he gets it right, but most of the time he is just plain over-hyped. I'm bored of his latest collections, and I don't get the hype.

Almost...but he is treated as if he is a God who can do no wrong. I guess over-rated is a wrong word when describing him.

I see what you mean but I personally think that most designers are overrated anyways. It's why all they're clothes are so stupidly expensive!

True...but somehow they do also get critisized, Galliano for example. Never happens to Jacobs, I don't think I have never seen a negative review of his collections.

i often like his shoe designs, especially the boots. but i HATE that weird-sizing-fetish he has going on. there are not two pairs of size 9 mj shoes that fit the same way...

I am not a big fan of his clothes, but I absolutely adore his shoes, in particular his flats. Due to a medical condition, I cannot wear heels most of the time, so being able to find stylish and cute flats is a must. His flats are made well, comfortable and worth the money, IMO.

wow you reeeaally dont like Marc Jacobs lol. Personally I really liked the last S/S collection but I can see how when you're older his designs might look really unsophisticated and immature. Also, the hype around the MJ label is very off-putting. But yeah, I like the MJ aesthetic anyway

That's a good majority of it to me. Is the aestetic. I can go out and buy a blazer and cords and style it the same and everybody is like wow you really know how to dress. Not knowing I only paid like 40 dollars for the whole thing.

I so agree! To me, his work is just ! It amazes me that his work is continuously praised by the fashion establishment. I dunno, but I think that paying ridiculous amounts of money for something that I can purchase at K Mart is insane.

i cannot agree with the idea that "fashion is something for women" Although mens fashion somehow always manages to conduct a feminine undertone it is still essential to style. the stylish man evolved from the concept that is fashion and without it fashion remains being only a "hobby" for women rather than the universal language that has been interpreted into all aspects of life .I STILL REALLY ENJOY HIS WORK THOUGH .

I found an excerpt from that interview that I mentioned (it was in the interview for which a link was provided in tfs post about which designers were gay/straight. Anyway, this interview was in Butt magazine

Excerpt follows:

That National Geographic collection that you did for Louis Vuitton men’s wear this summer, was that your intuition? I love that collection.
MJ: Yeah, me too. You know I’m very happy with the team that does men’s wear for us, with Keith, and with Olivier and Willy and Peter. I sometimes wish I were more involved. but men’s wear is not something I’m really good at. In fact, men’s fashion frightens me. I really find men who are fashionably dressed terribly unsexy. I think fashion is something for women. It’s a terribly sexist thing to say, but I just don’t find fashionably dressed men attractive, and men who take too much time in the bathroom and spend too much time on their body, I find a bit poncy and silly. It just doesn’t turn me on. So I let it go to the people who find it a turn-on and who are really passionate about it.
It’s weird to have your name put on the collections they make, isn’t it?
It is. I feel a certain amount of shame. I feel a bit fraudulent in saying that I’ve been doing this men’s wear collection when I haven’t had daily involvement in it. Although I can say very honestly I don’t do every part of the women’s collection, I am involved in every aspect of the women’s collection. But with the men’s, it’s a bit different. I feel like a bit of a fraud, and that’s what’s tough for me. I don’t know what other designers feel, but I just don’t like to pretend that I’m something that I’m not. I’m not superman and I don’t do everything.





So... after reading that... I had a little trouble paying MJ's prices...
