Why is Vogue Australia so bad?

(Disclaimer: I have never read Vogue, nor Vogue Australia)
Perhaps that's the reason why several countries franchise international titles--so people can get their hands on foreign content at a cheaper price. Those who could afford to purchase both the OS and local version of the same title shouldn't be as critical (or feel ripped off) when they see reprinted material, because technically, they didn't do anything wrong. The editors work under the mindset that it's the local edition you'd go for.

Conversely, I could also understand the complaints that some have made here: That Vogue Aus doesn't have an identity of its own. Coming out with a magazine that's a mishmash of its international counterparts does seem very lazy on the part of the editors. By way of example, if I was a reader, I wouldn't mind that half of the stuff already appeared in an international edition, so long as the remaining 50% of the locally produced stuff turn out amazing.

Just my 2 cents. I hope my points made sense. Haha.
Great points.

Almost all of the international issues (besides the main 4 - US, UK, Paris, Italia) use reprints. It's possible we notice it more in Aus Vogue is because:
a) it's an English-speaking edition therefore we are more likely to have pick it up and read it as to say Greece, Russia, Spain etc who use reprints often too.
b) Aus Vogue rarely use original photos for their covers whereas Spain, Russia etc at least have new covers. So when you see a cover that is a reprint you are automatically put off as the whole magazine just screams REPRINT!

^^ The new eds are only sometimes... Vogue magazine has alot of money, I think.
Just to go back to this, they definitely do not have the same budget as the other Vogues. As someone mentioned in another thread the publishing is licensed out to FPC (Federal Publishing Group), unlike others which are published directly by Conde Nast.

and for every reprinted editorial there are at least 2 new editorials :)

In that regard, it would probably benefit Vogue Aus immensely if they'd come out with the cover on the same month as the US. I remember the Angelina Jolie issue this year. US had her January (right?) then Aus reprinted her cover 2 months after (correct me). Not only did it scream reprint, like you said, it feels very "left over."

*sighs* another ripped off cover from US magazine W...

I don't mind reprinted covers from other editions as long as the magazine does something different with them, in terms of changing the colour scheme or going for a more exciting layout of lettering. I seem to remember Aussie Bazaar using many a reprint in the past, but somehow managing to inject new life into the image.

What disappoints me is that there are so many great emerging young designers in Australia but you only ever see a couple of Aus designer pieces on Vogue, everything else is European designer and often not even sold in Australia, which really irks me. When they do use Aus designer pieces they're always from one of around three designers and they always seem like the "token" Aus-designed outfit and doesn't really go with anything, it's just there so the editorial doesnt include only overseas stuff.

^^^ Exactly!

They should use more Josh Goot, Ksubi, Collete Dinnigan etc etc.

apart from reprints, aus vogue is still a disappointment anyway... if aus harpers bazaar can do it y not vogue?? i'm voting for a new editor! :P

Do you ever flick through it, at least?

I've only bought Vogue Australia once this year, but read every new issue for free at my library heh. Much nicer on my wallet that way.

I know it's a wrong thread to ask:doh: but I didn't find a thread on July issue of Australian Vogue and really need this , can anyone scan it please

kristina_zhou she (Eugenia) has a beauttyy section in aus vogue its really small jsut a pciture of her and a question on beauttyy =))

sorry for disturbing with my silly questions:rolleyes:

^^ Same here and I'm going to tell them what's wrong. ;)

I have actually. I've bought once and was left dissapointed when the cover and eds were reprints.
Then I gave it another chance and was once again dissapointed. :(

I bought the Caroline Trentini cover issue last week (can't remember what month it is, it takes ages to get to the UK) and it was OK. Haven't looked at it since the day I bought it though...

I hope every one is voting for either the April, may or June covers!

Most preferably April. I loved this cover!

I'm in Australia right now, and I was just noticing that the current VOGUE cover seems to be W's previous cover with Kirsten Dunst. The same exact photo too. Strange...

hahaha not really strange at all. It has become a much too often occurance for Aus Vogue to re use other magazines editorials and covers!
