I think it has a lot to to with mobile phones....plus there are clocks every where, so watches have never really been needed, but it seems now that basically everyone seems to carry a mobile with them, no one wears watches anymore. I know I haven't worn one in years. What does everyone else think? I can only think of a couple of people I know who even own a watch!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure no one will be wearing watches in the near future unless it's to show off how expensive a watch they can afford.

really??? i dunno about that...i dont' think watches will ever phase out...i love a really good looking expensive watch....watches are more than just something to tell the time..they really are a great fashion accessory
i think you can tell alot about a person by the type and style of watch they wear

everyone i know still wears watches

wow... my mom just said the same thing to me 2 days ago! she told me watches are going to be no wear soon and now this thread! she is always right!!!! grr!

i personally couldn;t live without my watch...it'd be so annoying to have to pull out my phone out of my bag every time i wanted to see what time it was

I reckon watches will still be around, but yeah, probably more as accessories. That's already the case for most people I know, they wear a watch because it's nice, not because they need it to keep track of time.. Personally I haven't worn one since junior high, but I never wear bracelets either.. just don't like stuff on my wrists.

i have to wear a watch- i use the second-hand to take the pulses of patients, so personally, watches will never be phased out for me. plus, it's the only reason i look forward to buying a cartier tank someday! :D

I agree that a watch is "optional" nowadays rather than necessary, but practically everyone I know still wears one.

It really is an accessory, and one of the few that guys (traditionally) can wear.

The really good thing about clocks being everywhere is that you don't need a super-accurate watch on your wrist. You can get a gorgeous mechanical one without worries. :p

I think watches are practically useless, I had this discussion the other day.

I wear them for style purposes and I feel bare if I dont have a watch on.

I could not live w/o my watch! I mean I understand how guys use cell phones to tell time since their phone is usually readily available in their pocket, but do women really have the patience to fish a phone out of a bag to see the time?! save the watches!!

I only use my watch as an acessory. My watch does not even work (i think. It's a digital, pretty cheap Furla-watch bought from yoox). I just use it as a bracelet-thing.

I just use my mobile phone and most people around me too. I don´t think watches can ever really become classified as jewellery though. They very rarely look elegant or beautiful or interesting. I think they will eventually become old-fashioned. :)

Lina5: You should check out Peter Jensen's watches, i consider them to be prettier than bracelets. They're really minimalistic, but soo beautiful. vbmenu_register("postmenu_2551945", true);

i think watches will always have their place, many people buy them as investment pieces and take care of them like a valued piece of jewellery. It also serves as a great accessory to your evening wear; and for men, it just completes the look imo. How often do you see a suave, sleek looking gentleman (e.g. james bond) pull out his mobile to check the time?? NEVER!! he always pulls back his sleeve to check the time on his elegant watch!!

lol...that's very true...
i agreee with you about the watch being an investment piece too....you can't go past an elegant watch..

but i have to admit there are some tacky watches out there at the moment

as technology continues to take over our every day lives i believe watches will remain as investment pieces if not for practicality.

besides, we can only do so much to show style or status; the latter will definitely help watches stay on our wrists!

There are so many devices around nowadays to tell the time, but I believe watches will still be around.
It's become more of an acessory nowadays and I'm still saving up to get a super gorgeous one for myself!

Watches are functional jewelry to me, and it's usually a good indicator of a person's sense of style. I always notice a great-looking watch, whether it's a Swatch or a Jaeger-LeCoultre. :)
